Senior AI / ML Engineer (C)

AI overview

Lead AI initiatives to enhance real-world educational workflows by designing intelligent systems for a large-scale K–12 platform.
Why Blue Coding?  At Blue Coding, we specialize in hiring excellent developers and amazing people from all over Latin America and other parts of the world. For the past 11 years, we’ve helped cutting-edge companies in the United States and Canada build great development teams and develop great products. Large multinationals, digital agencies, Saas providers, and software consulting firms are just a few of our clients. Our team of over 150 engineers, project managers, QA, UX/UI designers, and many more is distributed in more than 10 countries across the Americas. We are a fully remote company working with a wide array of technologies, and we have expertise in every stage of the software development process. Our team is highly connected, united, and culturally diverse, and our collaborators are involved in many initiatives around the world, from wildlife preservation to volunteering at local charities. We stand for honesty, fairness, respect, efficiency, hard work, and cooperation. This position is open exclusively to candidates based in LATAM countries. What are we looking for? In this opportunity, we are looking for an experienced Senior AI/ML Engineer to work directly with one of our international clients in the EdTech domain, building intelligent, AI-driven systems for a large-scale K–12 educational platform. In this role, you will design, build, and deploy production-grade machine learning and LLM-powered solutions that automate content creation, improve assessment quality, and enhance the overall teacher experience. You will operate as a senior, autonomous contributor, owning AI initiatives end-to-end while collaborating closely with client stakeholders and multiple engineering teams. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience delivering AI systems in production, is comfortable making architectural decisions, and communicates effectively in a distributed, cross-functional environment. If you are independent, a great communicator, a problem solver, and have a strong attention to detail, this is a great fit for you! Our jobs are fully remote – as long as you have the skills and can get the work done well, you can work anywhere in the listed countries you want. What’s unique about this job? This role offers the opportunity to act as a senior AI owner within the client’s organization, working directly with technical and product leadership to shape how AI is used in real-world educational workflows at scale. You will work at the intersection of traditional machine learning, LLMs, RAG systems, and agentic workflows, contributing to both system design and implementation. While this is currently a solo role, strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will coordinate with multiple teams and stakeholders across the organization. You will work at the intersection of traditional machine learning, computer vision, LLMs, RAG systems, and agentic workflows, owning solutions end-to-end—from experimentation to production deployment. The problems you will tackle are concrete, high-impact, and measurable, such as: - Building computer vision pipelines that convert scanned worksheets into interactive digital formats with high accuracy - Designing classification systems to automatically tag large volumes of educational content by subject, grade, and learning standards - Implementing RAG-based systems that generate contextually appropriate educational materials aligned with curriculum standards - Developing AI-driven quality assurance systems to evaluate assessment items using educational taxonomies - Creating agentic systems capable of generating complete lesson materials—including worksheets, answer keys, and rubrics—from teacher input - Building models that analyze student work patterns to identify common misconceptions and learning gaps You will coordinate closely with multiple engineering and product teams, influencing architecture, AI strategy, and best practices across the organization. You will have real ownership over the AI lifecycle, contributing not only through implementation but also through architectural decisions, model evaluation strategies, cost optimization, and continuous improvement of AI quality and reliability. Here are some of the exciting day-to-day challenges you will face in this role:
  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning models in production environments
  • Develop classification systems to automatically categorize educational content by subject, grade level, and learning standards
  • Build and maintain computer vision pipelines (e.g., object detection, OCR, image segmentation) for worksheet and student-submission analysis
  • Design and implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems using large content libraries
  • Engineer and optimize prompts for AI-generated educational content and assessment validation
  • Build AI-driven quality assurance systems to evaluate generated content against educational taxonomies
  • Develop agentic AI workflows that iteratively refine and improve generated outputs
  • Deploy and operate AI services on AWS, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Collaborate directly with client stakeholders and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Define and, when required, contribute to data labeling or feedback strategies supporting model quality
  • Maintain clear documentation for models, pipelines, and AI system behavior
  • Participate in code reviews and promote AI engineering best practices
  • You will shine if you have:
  • 5+ years of professional experience building ML systems in production
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Experience with at least one major ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn)
  • Proven experience deploying, monitoring, and iterating on AI models in real-world systems.
  • Strong modeling experience with AI/ML solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude) in production
  • Solid understanding of ML fundamentals: supervised and unsupervised learning, training, and evaluation metrics
  • Experience working with AWS for AI/ML workloads
  • Ability to work independently and take on initiatives end-to-end
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating directly with senior stakeholders
  • It doesn’t hurt if you also have:
  • Computer vision experience (object detection, image segmentation, OCR)
  • RAG system design and vector database experience
  • Prompt engineering and optimization experience
  • SQL and data analysis skills
  • Experience in EdTech or educational content platforms
  • Here are some of the perks we offer you:
