Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Accountant to join our finance function. The role will be responsible for general ledger accounting, month-end and year-end close, statutory and regulatory compliance (in UAE), management reporting, and supporting the Finance Manager/Director in delivering accurate and timely financial information. This person will act as a key link between operational teams and finance, ensuring robust controls, accurate financials and proactive financial insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the general ledger, ensuring transactions are appropriately recorded and reconciled.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and internal review.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with UAE accounting standards (and IFRS where applicable).
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasts and variance analysis, providing explanatory commentary and recommendations.
- Ensure all statutory compliance in UAE: VAT, corporate tax (if applicable), local regulatory filings, and audit support.
- Liaise with auditors (internal/external) and provide necessary schedules, documentation and insights.
- Maintain robust internal controls; identify process improvement opportunities and implement enhancements to accounting workflows.
- Analyse cost/expense trends and support cost-control initiatives; monitor fixed asset register, depreciation, capital expenditure tracking.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (operations, sales, procurement, HR) to ensure full understanding of financial implications and timely information flow.
- Support ad-hoc financial projects such as system implementations, process optimisations, change initiatives, or integration duties (if M&A/international operations).
- Mentor and supervise junior accounting staff (if applicable) and ensure knowledge sharing and adherence to best practice.
- Stay updated with UAE and international accounting regulations and advise the organisation on implications / required actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CPA) preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years post-qualification accounting experience, ideally in the UAE or Gulf region, within a mid-sized or multinational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UAE VAT, corporate tax, and local regulations.
- Demonstrable month-end/year-end close experience, general ledger accounting, financial reporting.
- Excellent Excel skills and comfort with accounting/ERP systems (experience with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc is a plus).
- Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills; proactive, detail-oriented and able to work under deadlines.
- Team-player but able to work independently, exercise judgement and deliver high-quality output.
- Professional integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
