thatgamecompany Inc. Is looking for Senior Environment Artists to join our team!

As a Senior Environment Artist, you will collaborate with the 3D Art team—including the Art Director, Art Leads, Concept Artists, and fellow 3D Artists—to create landscapes, environments, and models for an unannounced project. The ideal candidate understands that building environments goes beyond simply filling spaces with beautiful assets; it is an opportunity to help tell the story of the world players inhabit. Demonstrating artistic skills with our 3D Art Test is required for this position.

What You’ll Do Here:

• Create landscapes using our own proprietary terrain system

• Create models and set dress these landscapes to support the narrative and gameplay

• Establish environmental lighting and atmosphere for new or existing levels

• Create environmental FX such as particles, god rays, fog, bloom, exposure, etc.

• Work closely with technical artists to create custom shaders

• Collaborate with project leads, concept artists, and designers

• Brainstorm ideas and create rapid prototypes during the concept phase

• Support the rest of the modeling team to create cosmetic and level content

• Assist other departments throughout the studio on environment or modeling needs

Must Haves:

• 5+ years of experience working in games

• Proficient modeling skills in Maya or equivalent

• Strong sense of composition, lighting, and color theory

• Self-motivated, humble, and a team player

• Open-minded and great at handling criticism

• Passionate about creating unique and innovative 3D look

Nice to Haves:

• A passionate Sky player

• Ability to design gameplay levels and spaces

• Knowledgeable on ancient civilization and cultures

• A love for games especially titles similar to Flower, Journey or Sky!

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000 USD annually, with the opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.
