The Seed Production Agronomist – FPR (Field Production Research) role is responsible for leading, designing, executing, and delivering practical and scientific agronomic research trials and projects. This role is highly focused on addressing critical seed production challenges and optimizing seed production reliability & performance in North America (NA). The responsible will be tasked with hands-on field experimentation with data-driven analysis to develop robust production instructions, comprehensive production profiles, and detailed line characterizations that deliver to Regional and Global field production objectives. The position drives innovation through the implementation of emerging agricultural technologies and the refinement of experimental techniques and methodologies, translating research findings into actionable agronomic solutions that enhance yield, quality, productivity, and sustainability across the NA production footprint.

Accountabilities:

  • Take the lead in inbred characterization to provide key seed producibility data for crops assigned in SSV; Key stakeholder in the hybrid/parent production evaluation process, analysis of seed production reliability.
  • Development of production instructions and profiles for assigned crop species.
  • Lead experimental design, trial creation, execution, evaluation, and results delivery aligned with critical stakeholders and key business strategic priorities & targets.
  • Management of regional improvement projects and action plans.
  • Develop and maintain communication with various functions within Syngenta vegetables business functions.
  • Collect & analyze data to prepare reports and presentations for delivery to internal and external customers. Present information through a number of formal and informal avenues. Develop two-way communication with key stakeholders across Syngenta's vegetable business functions.
  • Maintain an awareness of competitive developments and key technologies in the seed industry, along with external technology institutions to ensure that innovations are identified, evaluated, and implemented aligned with business needs.
  • Accountable for organization and coordination of trial data collection activities.
  • Regular production field visits with regional field production staff to ensure FPR activities are aligned to regional and business priorities.
  • Ensure full Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE) compliance and promote environmentally sustainable solutions.
  • Personal Development: Attend Company sanctioned and/or external training seminars as agreed upon with Manager.
  • Representation of Syngenta: Ensuring Syngenta values are reflected in daily work activities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop/Plant Sciences, Plant Breeding, or related agricultural or biological discipline with relevant vegetable seed industry experience; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of vegetable seed industry experience. Seed Production experience preferred.
  • Functional knowledge of vegetable seed production and seed supply chain across a range of crop species.
  • Organization; planning, pro-activity and reactivity leadership, flexibility and availability to work in.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong PC, software, IT, and project management skills.
  • Fluent in English. Functional Spanish is a plus though not required.
  • Strong agronomic skills and knowledge of regional agricultural production systems, industry procedures, practices, and terminology.
  • Professional understanding of seed quality and factors that affect quality.
  • Financial knowledge & data analytics.
  • Experience in working across business functions: R&D, Production & Supply, Marketing/Commercial.
  • Independent and entrepreneurial mindset, ability to set a clear vision, End-to-End thinker and at each moment understand the impact of a decision on the ultimate customer satisfaction.

Salary for the role is $78,400 - $98,000 per year.
