Primary Objective: Responsible for direction and oversight of the entire security operation for the Seattle Mariners, T-Mobile Park and offsite facilities including 24/7 security, event security, and law enforcement personnel on game days. The role also oversees the physical security technology, emergency protocols and training, managing budget, and implementing crowd and line control methodologies. The Director, Security will work closely with senior level staff within the organization, directly with Major League Baseball (MLB), and law enforcement agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strong people leadership; implement strategies to effectively manage Team Members and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of department’s people resources.
  • Train, evaluate performance, and foster growth and development of Team Members, encouraging personal and professional development.
  • Provide leadership, direction, policies, and operational procedures in all areas of safety, security, loss control, and security.
  • Establishes and implements short and long range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies standards and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement that will ensure the highest level of security for Mariners staff and assets and the lowest risk of loss and liability to the organization.
  • Accountable for the physical security of T-Mobile Park and the security of employees, fans and players at all times.
  • Consulting with offsite facilities including Boxyard and Peoria Complex on security policies and procedures.
  • Recurring review of 3rd party vendor performance and management of the working relationship.
  • Primary owner of DHS SAFETY Act compliance, overseeing renewal requirements, program documentation, and operational consistency and alignment for T-Mobile Park, ensuring security operations, policies, and incident response programs remain compliant and defensible.
  • Review and update Emergency Response Plans (ERP), and lead emergency preparedness training.
  • Support Operations Director with maintaining business continuity plan (BCP) and Safety Manager with Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and ensure alignment among the processes and documentation
  • Support the practice of audits, participate in the reviews, conduct corrective actioning when necessary, identify recurring trends and implement solutions to minimize recurrences.
  • Proactively evaluate circumstances and suggest and secure additional security services beyond the standard operation when necessary such as SWAT, drone, or air support.
  • Collaborate with Guest Experience, Legal and external groups to effectively resolve all security related issues and implement mitigation and recovery plans and programs to address security related incidents.
  • Implement security plans, policies and programs to comply with Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Best Stadium Operating Practices and Spring Training Facility Security Procedures to meet all security requirements for MLB games, concerts and other events
  • Collaborate with MLB Resident Security Agent (RSA) and MLB Office of Security & Facility Management.
  • Assign security projects within the department structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Develop, manage and monitor annual security department operating budget.
  • Assist in the development of long-term plan for capital investment in physical security measures, programs, software and technology in support of organizations objectives.
  • Oversees and provides direction for major security related projects and physical security technologies including but not limited to; various card key access systems, alarm systems, video surveillance systems, radios, incident tracking software, and 3rd party security services
  • Oversees security incident response planning and investigation of breaches; assists with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches.
  • Suppress public disturbances occurring on the premises and where necessary; request assistance from city and county police if/when required.
  • Maintain safety and security training files for all employees in accordance with People & Culture policies and procedures.
  • Manage the scheduling and deployment of Seattle Police Department traffic operation around T-Mobile Park.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field required. Equivalent, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in large facility security operations, preferably in major league sports. At least five (5) years of experience in a management role required, senior level preferred.
  • Previous law enforcement is not required.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able and willing to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, games, spring training and special events, including prior to opening of facility to the public and/or through closing of the facility.
  • Must be able to access assigned locations in T-Mobile Park including navigating concrete stairwells, ramps and concourses.
  • Outdoor work environment, subject to fluctuation in temperatures, exposure to the sun and elements.
  • Must stand and/or walk on concrete surfaces including stairs at a moderate or fast pace for duration of a baseball game or event.  Must be able to run if needed.
  • Must have functional near and far vision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. (Computer, keyboard, mouse and telephone, performing clerical functions)

The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $120,000-$140,000 annually.
