Position Description

 

We are seeking an experienced SBA Business Development Manager to join our dynamic and growing team. This role will play a key part in expanding our SBA lending platform by building new referral partnerships and strengthening existing relationships.

 

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving market development initiatives and executing strategic growth plans related to SBA partnerships. This position will work closely with the Director of SBA Sales to evaluate, manage, and scale referral relationships, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and lending standards.

 

The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of successfully managing third-party lending or referral relationships, with the ability to balance partner expectations while driving sustainable growth. A solid understanding of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and foundational credit underwriting principles is essential.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

 

  • Develop new SBA referral partnerships while supporting, scaling, and strengthening existing relationships.
  • Establish short- and long-term partnership goals, including structured development plans to drive sustained growth.
  • Provide ongoing reporting and communication to referral partners regarding pipeline status and incoming opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with internal sales representatives to share pipeline updates, identify growth opportunities, and address challenges.
  • Lead onboarding and ongoing training for referral partners on credit guidelines, SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and internal technology platforms.
  • Analyze partnership performance and productivity to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to develop and execute partnership growth strategies.
  • Represent the organization at SBA-related conferences, trade shows, and industry events.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Experience in SBA sales with a strong working knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • 3–5 years of account management experience within the financial services or lending industry.
  • Proven ability to proactively develop, manage, and grow referral and partner relationships.
  • Creative, strategic, and analytical thinker with an ability to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to effectively lead partner-related meetings, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals and cross-functional teams to manage and grow customer relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
