Mission of the Satellite Production Specialist, Harness
You are the technical guardian of ICEYE’s satellite harness systems, ensuring they are built for uncompromising reliability and performance. You turn designs into robust, manufacturable reality, working hand-in-hand with production, design, verification, and quality teams.Through your expertise, rigor, and ownership, you safeguard the electrical backbone of each spacecraft and reduce risk across the entire lifecycle. Your contribution directly enables the rapid, scalable growth of ICEYE’s SAR constellation and the high availability of its data services. By elevating standards and mentoring others, you help build a world-class space manufacturing capability at ICEYE.
Who We Are
ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.
As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.
ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.
Outcomes of the role
Consistently deliver fully compliant, correctly manufactured, assembled, and installed wiring harnesses and cable assemblies that meet satellite system requirements with minimal rework.
Ensure harness assemblies are reliably inspected, verified, tested, and qualified to all required electrical, mechanical, and environmental standards, with clear documentation of results.
Embed and uphold workmanship, quality, and process control expectations (especially WHMA/IPC‑620) across daily operations, reducing defects and variation in production.
Effectively troubleshoot, repair, and rework harness defects or anomalies, driving timely corrective actions that prevent recurrence and protect delivery schedules.
Proactively improve harness manufacturing processes, enhancing design for manufacturability, increasing yield, and reducing cycle time while maintaining or improving quality levels.
Requirements
Expected Competencies
High‑reliability harness manufacturing expertise
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in harness or cable assembly manufacturing, testing, and qualification within high‑reliability, aerospace, space, or defense environments.
Advanced harness design and interpretation skills
Strong capability to interpret and translate wire tables, bend radii, shielding concepts, strain reliefs, wire routing schemes, connector selection, lacing methods, and protective coverings into robust harness designs.
Workmanship standards mastery
Demonstrated experience applying workmanship and inspection standards, particularly IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 (ideally including IPC/WHMA‑A‑620E), ensuring assemblies consistently meet defined acceptability criteria.
Fine assembly craftsmanship
Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail, with proven ability to work reliably with small components, fine wires, connectors, and mechanical fixtures in a repeatable, low‑defect manner.
Test, verification, and qualification capability
Practical experience conducting and interpreting harness tests including continuity, insulation resistance, pull tests, and mechanical or vibration tolerance evaluations, and feeding results back into design and process improvements.
Specialized harness technologies
Hands-on experience with soldering, shielding implementation, coaxial or high‑speed cable assemblies, and techniques such as harness embedding or potting for environmental robustness.
Technical education and engineering mindset
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hybrid/ hands‑on background, enabling effective collaboration with design and systems engineers.
Effective communication
Good command of written and spoken English to work with cross‑functional teams and documentation; Finnish language skills are an advantage but not a requirement.
Beneficial competencies
Digital harness design tools
Experience with RapidHarness or similar automated harness design and manufacturing tools, and exposure to CAD routing for harness design and integration.
Tooling and process automation
Background in integrating or automating harness tooling, fixtures, crimping machines, harness testers, and related process automation to improve repeatability, throughput, and safety.
Space/aerospace/defense domain familiarity
Prior involvement in space, aerospace, or defense programs, including awareness of environmental qualification constraints such as thermal, vibration, and radiation requirements.
Broader standards and quality systems knowledge
Knowledge of additional standards such as IPC‑D‑620, and familiarity with operating under ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality and change‑control frameworks.
Training and leadership in workmanship standards
Previous instructor or training experience in harness workmanship (e.g. IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 CIS/CIT), enabling mentoring and upskilling of colleagues in best practices.
