The Mission of the Satellite Harness Engineer

We’re looking for a Satellite Harness Engineer who’s excited to build spacecraft from the inside out. In this role, you’ll own the definition, design, and routing of the full satellite harness. You’ll work closely with systems, structures, avionics, thermal, propulsion, and AIT teams to create smart, lightweight, and reliable harness solutions that make the whole vehicle come together.

If you enjoy solving complex cross-discipline puzzles, owning your designs end-to-end, and shipping hardware that actually flies — this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Harness Design & Development

  • Define and design the satellite’s complete harness architecture, routing plans, and volume allocations.
  • Select connectors, cable types, grounding/shielding strategies, and other key design elements.
  • Create drawings, cable tables, and documentation needed for build and integration.
  • Consider EMC/EMI, mass, manufacturability, and reliability in every design decision.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work with subsystems leads to capturing electrical, mechanical, and environmental constraints.
  • Partner with AIT to ensure your harnesses are practical to assemble, install, and troubleshoot.
  • Coordinate with suppliers on materials, components, and manufacturability constraints.

Build, Integration & Test Support

  • Fabricate new harnesses and support the new developments in the Lab.
  • Support integration activities on the floor, helping resolve routing, interface, or harness-related issues.
  • Validate routing in both digital and physical builds, ensuring clearances, bend radii, and volumes make sense.

Requirements

Required

  • Degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with spacecraft or aerospace harness design (or similar high-reliability systems).
  • Strong knowledge of cable routing practices, connector technologies, and EMC/EMI principles.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools for harness design (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks Electrical, ECAD tools).
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and system requirements.
  • Comfort working with fast-moving, multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience across a spacecraft development cycle, especially AIT.
  • Knowledge of space-rated materials, ECSS/NASA standards, and derating guidelines.
  • Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill) or digital mockup environments.
  • Hands-on experience with cable assembly or integration.

Who You Are

You’re detail-obsessed, collaborative, and you love making order out of cross-disciplinary chaos. You’re happiest when you can take ownership from concept all the way to hardware in hand. You communicate clearly, ask the right questions, and you’re excited to help build satellites faster, smarter, and better.
