SMARDT Air is expanding its North American operations and is seeking a high-impact Sales Applications Engineer to strengthen account management, accelerate project execution, and support growth across both established and emerging market verticals.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Director of Sales, this role sits at the intersection of engineering, sales, and operations. The Sales Applications Engineer acts as a technical authority for customers and sales partners, owning project support from early application development through order execution.
This position is designed for engineers seeking real commercial responsibility—not limited to equipment selection or order processing, but actively influencing specifications, solutions, and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Market Support
- Serve as the primary technical support resource for inside sales, field sales, and manufacturer representatives across North America
- Support existing sales channels while directly developing and supporting new and emerging vertical markets
- Prepare timely, accurate, and competitive responses to RFQs and RFPs
- Track proposal activity, support pipeline visibility, and contribute to weekly sales and project status reporting (Salesforce or similar CRM)
Project & Technical Ownership
- Own technical coordination throughout the project lifecycle—from equipment selection and submittals through order release and delivery
- Maintain proactive communication with customers, representatives, and internal teams to ensure schedule alignment and customer satisfaction
- Analyze customer requirements and develop optimized air-handling and HVAC solutions tailored to specific applications
- Review purchase orders, submittals, and sales commissions for technical and commercial accuracy
Specification, Product & Market Influence
- Support specification development and influence equipment selection at the consulting-engineer level
- Present product advantages and application strategies at customer meetings, project reviews, industry events, and trade shows
- Conduct competitive analysis on pricing, performance, and lead times, and provide actionable market intelligence to sales leadership
- Capture and communicate customer and market feedback to Engineering and Product Management
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Service, and R&D to ensure technically sound and commercially viable solutions
- Support development of product specifications, performance documentation, and future product enhancements
- Assist in the creation and refinement of installation, operation, and maintenance documentation
- Support Marketing with technical content, standard presentations, and application-driven sales materials
- Test and validate selection software; identify bugs, workflow issues, and improvement opportunities for software development teams
Qualifications
Skills
- Strong technical understanding of commercial HVAC and air-handling applications
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with speed and accuracy
- Highly detail-oriented, responsive, and deadline-driven
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with minimal supervision
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, selection software, and digital collaboration tools
- Fluency in English required; French and/or Spanish a strong asset
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Demonstrated experience with commercial HVAC equipment, applications engineering, or technical sales support
- Familiarity with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, manufacturer representatives, and distribution channels
