In this role, you will be part of a high-performing systems engineering team supporting customers who install and maintain the Sonatype Air-Gapped Environment (SAGE) — a complex enterprise platform deployed in secure, large-scale customer environments. You will work closely with development, operations, and customer teams to design, deploy, and operate reliable infrastructure solutions that help customers succeed.

SAGE is a bundled offering of Sonatype’s front-end Applications and back-end Data Services. It is designed to operate without a direct internet connection — effectively “Sonatype-in-a-box.”

This role blends deep technical expertise with real-world problem solving and provides exposure to cloud platforms, automation, containers, and enterprise-scale architectures. Engineers in this role gain visibility across all aspects of Sonatype’s product portfolio.

• Develop long-term relationships with SAGE customers as they install, configure, and maintain SAGE and related enterprise software across diverse air-gapped environments.

• Help customers build and maintain automation to improve system reliability, repeatability, and deployment speed, tailored to their unique environments.

• Partner with support, engineering, security, and operations teams to troubleshoot complex system issues.

• Support both containerized and non-containerized deployments, including Docker- and Kubernetes-based architectures.

• Contribute to documentation, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Must-Have Skills

• Proven experience in systems engineering, systems integration, or platform operations for enterprise software.

• Strong hands-on experience with RHEL-like Linux systems, including systemd service management, and with cloud infrastructure (AWS,Azure,Oracle,Google).

• Hands-on experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL databases in production environments.

• Experience deploying and supporting production systems in complex, security-conscious, or regulated environments, including TLS/certificates and least-privilege access models.

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with a customer-first, growth-oriented mindset.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams at Sonatype and building strong relationships with customer system administration teams.

Good-to-Have Skills

• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), including supporting both containerized and non-containerized systems.

• Familiarity with infrastructure automation or configuration management tools (e.g., shell scripting, Helm, Ansible, Terraform).

• Familiarity with running Java applications as managed services (not application development).

• Experience working with networking, load balancing, and storage technologies.

• Experience using AI tools to enhance communication, analysis, or efficiency in support and operational workflows.

• Exposure to enterprise SaaS platforms or globally distributed systems.
