Position: Physical Education and Athletics Coordinator (with Teaching Responsibilities)

RISE Academy is seeking a full-time or part-time Physical Education and Athletics Coordinator who will lead the coordination of K–12 athletics programming while also teaching PE classes. This role is ideal for an energetic, organized educator-coach who can build a safe, engaging, values-aligned athletics culture and inspire students toward lifelong wellness through fitness, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.


The Coordinator will oversee day-to-day PE and athletics operations, including seasonal planning, after-school and weekend leagues, logistics for practices and competitions, equipment and facility coordination, and family communication, while delivering developmentally appropriate PE instruction during the school day.

Key Responsibilities

A. Athletics Program Coordination and Operations

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of the school’s athletics and sports programming, including after-school and weekend leagues for students in grades K–12
  • Develop and maintain seasonal athletics calendars, practice/game schedules, tournament plans, and communication systems for families and staff
  • Coordinate league logistics for team practices, games, tournaments, special athletic events, and off-site competitions
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of coaches (staff or community coaches), including setting expectations for student safety, sportsmanship, and values-aligned coaching
  • Establish and reinforce safety protocols, supervision plans, emergency procedures, and safe sport practices
  • Oversee athletics equipment, facilities, uniforms, and supplies; maintain inventory and ensure items are safe and in working condition
  • Collaborate with school leadership and relevant staff on program priorities, facility use, purchasing needs, and operational planning
  • Strengthen school culture through athletics by organizing spirit-building events, showcases, and opportunities for student leadership in sports
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and school-wide events; support other duties as assigned
  • Travel off-site for athletic competitions and field trips as needed


B. Physical Education Teaching and Student Development

  • Teach PE classes (grades and schedule based on campus needs), including fitness, skill development, movement education, and sports units
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons that include warm-ups, stretching, skill instruction, gameplay, and reflection on teamwork and character
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including adaptive PE strategies and accommodations aligned with IEPs or learning support plans when applicable
  • Assess and monitor student participation, fitness growth, skill development, and social-emotional competencies such as cooperation, perseverance, and resilience
  • Establish clear routines and behavior expectations that promote a respectful, active, and inclusive learning environment
  • Communicate proactively with families and staff regarding student participation, progress, and wellbeing


Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Education, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience working with students in grades K–12 in PE, coaching, sports coordination, recreational programming, or youth development settings
  • Knowledge of a variety of sports and physical fitness programs, including skill development and coaching techniques
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills; ability to coordinate schedules, logistics, and multi-grade programming
  • Commitment to student safety, including knowledge of stretching, injury prevention, supervision best practices, and emergency procedures
  • Ability to effectively manage student behavior and create a positive, structured environment
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Ability to lead and actively participate in structured physical activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in athletics coordination, coaching, or youth athletic program management
  • Prior PE teaching experience in a school setting and/or teaching credential (preferred but not required)
  • Experience organizing leagues, tournaments, and off-site athletic events
  • Experience supporting inclusive programming and adaptive PE strategies
  • Coaching certifications and/or safe sport training


Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate movement for extended periods indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 20 pounds (sports equipment and supplies)
  • Ability to supervise students during active movement and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent use of a computer/keyboard and operation of classroom/office tools for scheduling and communication
  • Ability to maintain a safe, organized, hazard-free activity space and adhere to safe working practices
  • Occasional evening/weekend work for athletics programming and school events, including off-site travel as needed


Compensation

Compensation is based on credentials, relevant experience, academic degrees, and certifications. Children of staff members may be eligible for tuition discounts.

Salary
$27 – $40 per hour
