We are seeking to engage a researcher to join a team covering Brazil and the Southern Cone (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay). The successful candidate will demonstrate background and enthusiasm for the intersection of politics, security, regulatory, and business-relevant issues in Brazil and in delivering bespoke consulting engagements. 

You will provide a broad range of support to our clients, from regular short-form analysis and updates on the latest developments to in-depth consulting engagements supporting market entry, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement. Your analysis will also support other teams at Control Risks globally. You should be able to distil complex issues into practical, business-focused insights and be motivated to help organizations make decisions in challenging environments. Managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines will be essential. 

Role Tasks & Responsibilities 

Research and Analysis 

  • Build and maintain expertise on the political, regulatory, security, and business environment in Brazil and the Southern Cone through open-source research, social media monitoring, attendance at seminars and industry events, and development of your own source network. 
  • Work with other analysts to lead the development of Control Risks’ analysis of key political, operational, and security issues in the region. 
  • Contribute regular updates to our online subscription service Seerist and other country-specific products. 
  • Suggest new research sources and innovative approaches to analysis. 

Consulting Reports and Projects 

  • Contribute to bespoke consulting projects assessing political, security, regulatory, and operational risks to clients’ interests in Brazil and the Southern Cone. 
  • Support the development of compelling client deliverables using innovative presentation formats, graphics, and methodologies. 
  • Conduct thorough OSINT and public record research and produce high-quality analysis that addresses clients' key questions. 

Marketing and Business Development 

  • Conduct research to support business development initiatives. 
  • Contribute to promotional publications, social media content, and other initiatives as required. 

Requirements

Essential 

  • Portuguese and English language fluency (oral and written). 
  • Bachelor's degree (or local equivalent). 
  • OSINT and internet research skills. 
  • Strong understanding of the political, regulatory, and security environments in Brazil and the Southern Cone. 
  • Ability to write concisely and authoritatively to deadlines while interacting with colleagues and clients in challenging situations. 
  • Ability to independently identify, research and interpret significant events and developments. 

Preferred 

  • Additional language skills, especially Spanish. 
  • Experience with handling datasets, conducting quantitative data analysis and producing data visualisations.  
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.
