Enterprise Knowledge (EK) is hiring a Part-Time Research Librarian to support our client, Warfighting Acquisition University.  As with all of our positions, we are seeking independent thinkers with exceptional communication skills, both written and oral. This position demands a deep understanding of research and excellent analytical skills.

This role requires that you work a consistent schedule, 4 hrs/day, 5 days/week, or 5 hrs/day, 4 days/week. 

The working hours are between 8am - 5pm ET. Must live within the Metro DC area (MD, DC, VA).

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Responsibilities will include:

In this exciting role, you will work individually and as part of a team to provide research and library services across a full range of DoD (DoW) contracting policy areas.  You will interface directly with the client to provide research in a variety of formats (reports, white papers, annotated bibliographies, web guides, emails, etc), and must be able to operate in the following capacities:    

  • Working in a customer facing special library environment
  • Using Specialized Databases and other commercial web pages
  • Using library web page publishing software (i.e. LibGuides)
  • Conducting academic research and creating detailed and well-researched reports for clients
  • Working under deadlines within specialized issue areas that may be obscure, ambiguous, and contentious
  • Rapidly build a working knowledge of specialized issue areas and resources as part of successfully identifying, proposing, developing, and executing research projects
  • Collaborating and consulting with internal and external subject matter experts to develop and improve research projects
  • Negotiating with clients and colleagues on the substance of research projects, which may include developing an array of different options and facilitating decisions related to sources, methodology, and the form of a final product
  • Designing and writing products as a solo or co-author that describes the findings of research projects. These products often include multiple elements such as abstracts, methodological descriptions, summaries, and tables
  • Making effective use of peer reviews of products by incorporating feedback from multiple colleagues into coherent and cohesive products
  • Working within a multi-level product development and review process to ensure accuracy, appropriate scope, adherence to organizational policies and values, and responsiveness of products
  • Delivering products to clients in writing, by phone, and virtual calls, often in combination, and in accordance with the circumstances of each unique research project and resulting product
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the content, scope, and search functionality of specialized research resources relevant to research projects
  • Providing orientation and training/instruction to Federal Employee and Military clients and colleagues on research methods and research resources
  • Providing legal research support, legislative history research, current news/awareness services, and other support

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of professional library experience to include the performance, supervision, and management of one or more major functional areas of librarianship
  • Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Direct experience in scientific and technical reference work including online databases, On-Line Computer Library Center (OCLC) systems, search and retrieval, bibliographic instruction, and all aspects of bibliographic control of a technical library collection with emphasis on digital competencies
  • Demonstrated, effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Professional level experience supporting governmental library, research, and reference services
  • Previous experience with DoD (DoW)
  • Ability to get a Public Trust Clearance

Salary Information:

EK considers a broad range of factors in considering employee salary including a candidate’s skills, experience, education, certifications, past successes, and qualifications. The salary for this part-time role is $35,000.
