Research & Insights Sales Lead (6 Month Contract)

The Telegraph’s successful transition to a subscriptions-first, digital-first business has unlocked significant opportunities to monetise TMG’s rich first-party data assets.

In 2023, TMG’s Commercial department launched Compass, an in-house insights agency from The Telegraph, enabling brands to access bespoke research and proprietary data. Compass brings together the full breadth of Telegraph first-party data, tools, and in-house expertise that power both the newsroom and the subscription business, delivering unique, actionable insights that help brands solve business challenges and improve marketing performance.

Compass is TMG’s latest first-party data offering and has already been recognised as an industry-leading solution, winning accolades at the AOP, Wires and Press Gazette Awards.

The Compass Sales Lead will be responsible for taking the Compass proposition to market, selling the full suite of products ranging from bespoke research projects to standardised insights access.

Reporting into the Director of Commercial Strategic Growth, this role will identify market opportunities, proactively source research briefs, and drive net new revenue through the sale of Compass research and insights outputs. You will play a pivotal role in demonstrating the value of TMG’s data assets to prospective clients and securing new business for TMG’s growing research and insights agency.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Insights Sales

  • Responsible for selling all Compass products to the market in line with targets set by Director of Commercial Strategic Growth

Identifying Market Opportunities

  • Leverage existing contacts in the research industry to find key sales opportunities for the Compass offering
  • Liaise with the Compass team to share feedback from the market

Market positioning

  • Provide insights on how best to position the Compass offering to best engage with potential clients

Requirements

Sales skills

  • Proven data sales experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Ability to uncover new briefs, identify key market opportunities and convert these into net new revenue for TMG
  • Excellent client management skills

Industry experience

  • Experience in pitching and winning business in research, insights and data solutions.
  • Commercial background in research, insights, and digital media - either at an agency or research platform provider
  • Keen understanding of relevant technology, terminology, research techniques and processes. 

Communication

  • Ability to translate complex concepts into accessible language for communications and pitches.  
  • Proven track record of conveying the business value of  research and insights products
  • Demonstrates high integrity and emotional intelligence, able to lead, influence, persuade.
