This is an exciting opportunity, leading the day-to-day operations of our rent setting and service charge team, oversee key financial processes and driving service improvements. You’ll maximise and evidence cost recovery, ensure budgets and reviews are accurate and compliant, and shape the policies and procedures that keep our services running smoothly, all while collaborating closely with stakeholders to deliver real impact.

Duties include:

  • Foster a high-performance culture, recognising and rewarding strong contributions and ensure team delivers against targets, addressing underperformance promptly and constructively.
  • Lead on rent setting, annual rent review, service charge accounting and annual budget setting for rental and service charge income (including provisions and sinking funds).
  • Ensure robust financial controls and reconciliations are in place, with all discrepancies investigated and resolved within agreed timescales.
  • Provide expert advice and challenge senior management, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and aligned with financial objectives.
  • Lead internal and external audit activities, ensuring recommendations are implemented. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., Regulator of Social Housing Rent Standard).
  • Proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Identify and deliver service improvement projects with clear objectives, milestones, and success measures.
  • Report regularly on progress against improvement plans, holding self and others accountable for delivery.
  • Support a culture of innovation, encouraging the team to suggest and implement new ideas.
  • Use performance data to drive accountability and continuous improvement across the team.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience managing a rent and service charge team in the social housing sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of service charge setting in social housing and leasehold environments.
  • Substantial experience managing month-end processes (accruals, budget monitoring, forecasting).
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets.
  • Right to Work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available.
  • A basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check will be required for the successful candidate as part of the pre-employment process - Criminal Conviction Checks
