Who we are

Aurora’s mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly.

The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone.

At Aurora, you will tackle massively complex problems alongside other passionate, intelligent individuals, growing as an expert while expanding your knowledge. For the latest news from Aurora, visit aurora.tech or follow us on LinkedIn.

Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all.  We’re searching for a Remote Assist Specialist (RAS)who will play a crucial role in expanding the Tactical Development Test Operations team.

As a Development Remote Assist Specialist, your contributions start with fleet monitoring, but thrive in the grey area of early-stage software testing. You will be responsible for resolving trigger requests from development fleet vehicles while continuously interrogating the system to identify root causes, providing the critical feedback loop that allows our product to evolve.

What to expect: This is a foundational team in its first year. You will work on a team built to stress-test and validate Commercial SOPs through intentional interrogation. This role is for a storm searcher; someone who is energized by finding flaws and contributing to building solutions in a high velocity environment.

In this role, you will

  • Work on a set 4x10 schedule, Thursday - Sunday.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of how our self-driving technology works. Understand that software and operational changes may happen daily and view these as opportunities to learn.
  • Emulate Commercial Ops roles during new feature testing through a variety of application testing (Aurora App, Terminal App, Inspector App, etc).
  • Safely send remote commands to autonomous vehicles for on-road and closed-course testing, adhering to safety anchors.
  • Respond to and resolve a variety of trigger requests from autonomous vehicles with composure and technical logic.
  • Log real-time, high-fidelity feedback regarding autonomy and platform performance. Move beyond reporting symptoms to identifying patterns and root causes for engineering teams.
  • Escalate operational blockers with suggested solutions, utilizing our established standards to make safe calls when faced with unknown variables.
  • Actively "storm search" during testing to identify areas where testing workflows and SOPs can be improved, hardened, or refined.
  • Triage remote assist workflows and on-road events that are key to performance metrics and compliance.
  • Interact with the public and stakeholders as a professional representative for Aurora’s mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to constantly focus on a laptop monitoring proprietary tooling to aid autonomous vehicle operations
  • A mindset that views a system "failure" or a bug as a successful data point that makes the fleet safer.
  • Keen attention to detail with the ability to spot subtle anomalies in telemetry that others might miss.
  • Ability to prioritize and make strategic, "best-path" decisions proactively in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to remain unfazed by rapid pivots; you thrive in environments where "the plan" evolves based on real-time data.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to provide clear, actionable feedback to cross functional stakeholders.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (5+ years history), clean driving record, and ability to pass drug/alcohol screenings.
  • 100% in-office. Available to work rotating shifts (early mornings, late nights, or weekends) with 2 week notice, and regular overtime as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Interest in technology tools, apps, gaming, flight simulators, or command-line interfaces that require high spatial awareness and multi-tasking.
  • Proficient in G-Suite and capable of learning new, proprietary software applications rapidly.
  • Experience working in a "Win Together" environment where team success is the priority.

The base hourly wage range for this position is $31.00 - $46.00 per hour.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
