Role Overview  

The Relationship Lead (RL) plays a pivotal role in Packt’s tech publishing ecosystem by driving both the acquisition of high-caliber authors and the execution of post-publication marketing strategies. As a dynamic link between subject matter experts, developers, IT professionals, and practitioner communities, and Packt’s content goals, the RL is responsible for discovering influential voices in tech, nurturing long-term author relationships, and ensuring that each published title achieves visibility, engagement, and commercial success across all sales channels.  

This is a strategic, outward-facing role that requires a blend of people skills, product sensibility, DevRel marketing acumen, and technology community-building mindset.  

We value a track record in producing or guiding developer-focused learning resources for web and mobile. Curiosity about software engineering and emerging AI-powered practices is encouraged. You do not need to be a specialist, yet experience shaping effective learning resources and access to a strong expert network will set you up for success. This is NOT a sales role.

Key Responsibilities  

 High-Status Author Acquisition & Engagement  

  • Proactively identify and pursue influential tech professionals, thought leaders, and practitioners as potential authors.  
  •  Pitch publishing opportunities to experts with a compelling narrative that aligns with their personal brand and career goals.  
  •  Negotiate author contracts and manage onboarding to ensure clarity, enthusiasm, and a strong collaborative foundation.  
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for authors, guiding them through the publication journey.  
  •  Maintain long-term relationships to encourage repeat authorship and ambassador-level partnerships.  

Community Engagement and Outreach:  

  • Work closely with Growth Leads and Content Engineers to drive community participation and awareness of titles.  
  • Build and maintain vibrant communities in key topic areas to enhance Packt's brand value and the quality of content.  
  • Design and implement initiatives that encourage community members to actively contribute, share insights, and support each other.  

Build Advocate Networks:  

  • Develop advocate networks by identifying and engaging passionate community members who can amplify the reach and impact of titles.  
  • Empower advocates with resources and opportunities to share their knowledge and promote the content within their networks.  
  • Foster long-term relationships with advocates to ensure continued support and engagement.  

Cross-Industry Partnerships:  

  • Develop and nurture relationships with industry bodies, influencers, and thought leaders.  
  • Establish strategic partnerships that enhance the credibility and reach of your assigned topics, providing deeper engagement opportunities and boosting the overall content impact.  
  • Collaborate with partners to co-host events, contribute to industry discussions, and expand visibility across different channels.  

Product Expansion and Relationship Innovation:  

  • Identify opportunities to expand beyond traditional book formats, exploring new product formats such as expert panels, live events, or memberships.  
  • Cultivate partnerships that support these new initiatives, ensuring they align with community needs and vertical strategy.  
  • Experiment with innovative engagement models that bring value to both authors and the community, creating diversified content offerings.  

Thought Leadership and Influence:  

  • Establish alliances with influential figures and organizations within the industry.  
  • Position Packt as a thought leader by leveraging these relationships to produce high-value content, expert contributions, and influential collaborations.

Monthly Gross Salary Range- 80K-120K per month (skills and/or experience dependent)
