Nurse Residency Program
Newly graduated Registered Nurses are eligible to participate in the Nurse Residency Program, a structured six-month initiative designed by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing to support the transition into professional practice. The program enhances clinical competence, confidence, and retention through: Preceptorship – Guided clinical integration with experienced preceptors (Months 1–3) and Mentorship – Ongoing support through reflective practice, virtual simulations, and competency-based workshops (Months 4–6).
Nurses will spend their first six (6) months at UHN completing the residency program on a host inpatient unit, 6A Neurovascular Unit, to build foundational clinical skills and confidence. Upon successful completion of the residency program, nurses will be required to complete an accredited Critical Care Program. Upon successful completion of the Critical Care Program, nurses will transition into a permanent role within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), continuing their professional development in a high-acuity environment.
University Health Network is offering to pay for the tuition and time of nurses who are interested in completing an accredited Critical Care Program. This is an exciting opportunity to diversify your career and develop critical care skills.
