To support this mission, Syngenta’s Regional Engineering Category team is seeking a Regional Category Manager Europe - Engineering in Budapest. This role will support the delivery of development and execution of outsourcing strategies in partnership with Syngenta’s Seeds and Crop Protection organizations, across our R&D, chemical manufacturing and formulation fill & pack sites in Europe by:

Accountabilities: 

  • Lead the execution of Engineering Category Strategy Framework across Engineered Equipment, MRO/Consumables and Professional Engineering, Maintenance and Construction Services ensuring alignment with Syngenta’s business objectives.
  • Provide commercial leadership & governance of large scale CAPEX investment programs ($5-50m), establishing procurement strategies through effective management of third party engineering services providers, considering total cost of ownership.
  • Build networks and maintain strong relationships with Engineering Leadership, Business Unit Leads / Budget Holders, Procurement Colleagues, Legal, Finance and key suppliers at regional and global level.
  • Provide strategic direction, coaching & motivation within a geographically dispersed IP function.
  • Analyze spend and market trends to identify opportunities for total value contributions and risk mitigation.
  • Lead cross-functional, multinational sourcing projects and negotiations to secure contracts and deliver value.
  • Manage supplier relationships, including performance metrics (KPIs/SLAs), contract lifecycle, and annual pricing updates.
  • Ensure operational compliance and manage third-party risk across all relevant procurement activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven success in managing complex outsourcing & CAPEX investment programs within Engineering, ideally in a manufacturing and / or engineering services environment.
  • Strategic thinker, a self-starter and effective problem solver.
  • Strong organisational, project management and leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional, international teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable when challenging and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a multinational, multicultural environment.
  • Advanced analytical skills and proficiency with data handling tools.
  • Skilled in the use of the Ariba e-Sourcing platform; managing all eRFX events, including auctions
  • Results-oriented with strong business acumen; thrives in a fast-paced, complex and dynamic environment. Shows initiative and can handle ambiguity, where solutions can be difficult to find.
  • Fluent in English; French and/or German are a plus.
  • Degree in Engineering, plus extended experience (5-10 years plus) of working in a Heavy Manufacturing or Engineering Services environment.
