Our Global Finance team connects people, numbers, and processes across countries to ensure SumUp grows sustainably. We value collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement — and we’re looking for someone who shares that mindset to join our Record to Report (R2R) team.

As a Record to Report Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across our European entities. You’ll be hands-on with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain high-quality accounting, strong controls, and efficient processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and working in an international fintech environment while contributing to both operational excellence and process improvements.

What you’ll do

  • Execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness

  • Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, VAT, payroll, and leases

  • Maintain and monitor intercompany transactions, including loans and cash pooling, in close collaboration with Tax and Treasury teams

  • Prepare and post IFRS 16 lease accounting entries and ensure timely payments

  • Support indirect tax accounting by reconciling VAT accounts and investigating discrepancies together with Tax colleagues

  • Improve reconciliation processes and documentation to strengthen controls and audit readiness

  • Support accounting activities related to fixed assets, FX revaluations, inventories, and payroll

  • Actively contribute to automation and efficiency initiatives using SAP, Excel, VBA, Power Query, and other tools

  • Partner with stakeholders across Accounting, Controlling, Treasury, FP&A, ERP, and other teams to ensure smooth financial operations

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have a solid understanding of accounting principles and best practices

  • You have previous experience in a Record to Report / General Ledger accounting role

  • You can independently prepare, review, and explain balance sheet reconciliations

  • You are comfortable investigating discrepancies and proposing corrective actions

  • You have experience working in an international or multinational environment

  • You are fluent in English (written and spoken)

  • You enjoy collaborating with others and are open, communicative, and supportive by nature

  • You are curious, eager to learn, and motivated to improve processes through automation

Nice to have

  • Experience working with SAP S/4HANA

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA or in progress)
