JOB SUMMARY
The Mixer Driver is a critical member of the Martin Marietta team, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a ready-mix concrete truck. The driver is tasked with the high-stakes delivery of perishable concrete products from plant locations to diverse customer job sites. This role requires more than just driving; it involves technical quality control (slump testing), equipment maintenance, and serving as the primary face of the company to contractors and clients. The objective is to maintain a "Safety First" culture while ensuring the highest level of customer service and product integrity.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate heavy-duty ready-mix trucks in compliance with all DOT, state, and federal regulations, as well as Martin Marietta’s rigorous safety standards.
- Exercise expert judgment when accessing job sites to avoid hazards (soft ground, overhead wires, or tight clearances) and ensure the safest position for unloading.
- Assemble concrete chutes and operate hydraulic chute controls during the pour. Coordinate with site crews to ensure the concrete is placed exactly where needed.
- Work closely with the Dispatch team to determine the quickest and safest routes, minimizing "time in drum" to preserve concrete quality.
- Visually inspect the concrete mix for "slump" (consistency) and load size before leaving the plant and upon arrival at the job site.
- Maintain the mixer in a clean, organized, and professional condition. This includes using water hoses to clean the mixer drum and truck exterior between loads to prevent concrete buildup.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (tires, lights, fluids, brakes). Document and report any mechanical issues or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Perform minor roadside repairs or assist maintenance teams with larger mechanical fixes as required.
- Act as a brand ambassador, maintaining a professional appearance and a courteous, "can-do" attitude when interacting with customers and the public.
- Manage delivery tickets accurately, ensuring all necessary documentation is signed and returned to the plant to facilitate billing.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers via two-way radio, hand signals, or verbal instruction to ensure smooth operations at the plant and site.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations. Strictly follow Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures when performing maintenance.
- Consistently wear all required safety gear (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, high-visibility vest) and attend mandatory safety meetings.
