About the Role:

The R&D Strategy Intern is responsible for developing partnerships and formulating strategies that deliver innovative solutions to consumer pain-points, while aligning with business needs to help foster the Samsung device ecosystem. Our R&D Strategy team combines the best of Samsung product expertise to create radically futuristic and innovative products, services and experiences to delight our consumers. We research, identify, partner and promote new technologies to make our consumer’s experience with our devices better, faster, seamless, more powerful, and multi-dimensional across different consumer device categories. Our goal is to improve consumer lifestyles through technology advancement and experience enrichment. You will work with a cross-functional team supporting different consumer product business units, developing business cases, fostering partnerships, and driving pivotal initiatives to grow our consumer product business.

Samsung Research America is seeking an entrepreneurial, collaborative and intellectually curious Intern to join our R&D Strategy team for 2023 Summer. Based in Mountain View, Samsung Research America (SRA) develops next generation technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Security, VR/AR, IoT, Robotics and FinTech.

As a member of the R&D Strategy team, you will work closely with senior leadership and research labs to drive innovation, influence potential market opportunities and collaborate with academic institutions, start-ups, venture partners and leading companies in Silicon Valley.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will be tasked to:

  • Identify future technologies that enable Samsung to deliver new and exciting business value to consumers
  • Identify strategic partners that Samsung can collaborate with to expedite commercial rollout
  • Perform thorough research on potential technologies and evaluating the associated product and business opportunities
  • Collaborate with the larger team to achieve goals
  • Define new services and products that go beyond Samsung’s existing consumer product lines
  • Benchmark compelling products for future consumer needs and build features and services that captivate and delight our future consumers
  • Maintain a solid understanding of broad technology trends, while also being able to keep a pulse on the current market dynamics and competitive landscape
  • Possess a strong understanding of Samsung Electronics’ consumer business and our competition’s SWOT
  • Build and deliver project roadmaps, go-to market strategies, and executive presentations on emerging technologies and products of technology

Background and Experience Required

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Management or Technology Management at a top ranked University
  • Potentially, an MBA/Ph.D. or MoT candidate with past technology work experience
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in multiple verticals

  • A self-motivated critical thinker with the ability to execute at a high level
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain the business implications of new technologies

Essential Job Functions

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
