Your mission
We are looking for a talented R&D Engineer (m/f/d) to take ownership of automated test systems, from setup and execution through testing and optimization. In this role, you will combine hands-on laboratory work with system-level understanding to support prototype development, automation, and continuous improvement in a collaborative, multidisciplinary R&D environment. Key Responsibilities:
-
System Ownership & Testing: You take ownership of a mid-complexity test system, including its process logic, automation sequences, and testing workflow. You will troubleshoot issues and collaborate with test engineers to evaluate system performance and identify areas for improvement.
-
Cross-functional Collaboration: You work closely with R&D engineers, software developers, chemists and mechanical engineers to support system integration and testing workflows.
-
Hands-on Lab Work & Prototype Development: You assemble and modify test setups involving pneumatic and fluidic components (e.g. valves, tubing, fittings). You execute experiments in the lab and support troubleshooting across disciplines.
-
Automation & Coding: You write scripts (e.g. in Python) to automate processes and support prototype operation.
-
System Testing: You define and execute parameter tuning, calibrations, and exploratory testing to optimize system performance.
- Data Documentation & Analysis: Document test plans and results, analyze findings, and contribute to design decisions and process improvements.
-
System-Level Understanding: Develop a deep understanding of how complex automated systems function and interact across fluidics, mechanics, and software layers.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Medical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related interdisciplinary field.
- Hands-on experience working with fluids and gases in a research laboratory or prototype environment, including basic (micro)fluidics, pneumatic systems, and safe handling of liquids and chemicals.
- Programming experience (e.g. Python)
- Experience in process automation (e.g. with PLC or LabView)
- Basic mechanical CAD experience is considered an advantage.
