R&D Engineer 3 (Electrical Design)
TLDR
Lead design engineering of electrical systems for microgrids and data centers while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and overseeing subcontractor work.
- Coordinates the design of electrical systems for microgrids and Data Centers
- Establishes and reviews project requirements, develops project schedules, and coordinates their implementation
- Creates and reviews electrical system design work products such as, one-line diagrams, equipment requirement specifications, functional specifications, system design descriptions, engineering studies, engineering reports, Inspection, Test, Analysis & Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC), and associated calculations
- Performs interdisciplinary review of work products of interfacing disciplines and owner review/acceptance of subcontractor work products
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required, with an emphasis in power systems analysis preferred; professional engineer (P.E.) license registration and/or advanced degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in the commercial power industry with focus on design or systems engineering is required. Preferred experience includes:
- Knowledge of electric power distribution, load following, dynamic Data Center power demand, energy storage. Familiar with Grid-Forming Control, Grid-Following Control and EPMS.
- Extensive experience using ETAP to perform Microgrid Power System Analysis, distribution network analysis, load flow, short-circuit, protective relaying and coordination analysis
- Experience with I&C systems for steam generation, steam valves, safety systems and integration of closed-loop SCADA controlled systems applied to turbo-machinery and industrial processes.
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams including diverse engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, planning, etc.
- Participation with industry standards associations or working groups
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
- Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers.
- Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment.
- The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation.

Pay and Benefits:
The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually. The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722 annually.
