LOCATION

This position is a full-time, hybrid position which will be located in our Chicago, IL office.

JOB SUMMARY

Infleqtion is looking for a quantum engineer who will be responsible for developing and delivering machine learning & optimization solutions based on quantum technologies. The engineer will drive work that contemplates the full quantum software stack, from applications to compiler to awareness of underlying hardware/controls.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.  

  • Develop quantum machine learning and optimization solutions for end users in industries such as defense and logistics
  • Tailor solutions using full-stack quantum software optimizations: these optimizations can span the full stack, from algorithmic improvements, compiler optimizations, and pulse-level control techniques to force-multiply the capabilities of underlying quantum hardware (we target both NISQ and fault-tolerant hardware)
  • Deploy software optimizations to our cloud platform (Superstaq) with industry-grade software engineering procedures including documentation, linting, testing, and type-checking
  • Interface with customers of Superstaq to understand their needs and support them in a timely fashion
  • Conduct R&D toward cutting-edge advances in quantum technology. Write and manage funding proposals to multi-million-dollar programs across the globe

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD-level training in computer science, engineering, physics or directly related field
  • At least three (3) years of experience in quantum technology or machine learning, with at least two (2) years of professional industry-level quantum software work experience
  • Strong familiarity with quantum computing is necessary, as well as familiarity with state-of-the-art tools for (classical or quantum) machine learning & optimization
  • Experience with open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit; Ideal candidates will have experience not only using these libraries but also modifying them
  • Experience with open-source machine learning & optimization frameworks such as PyTorch, SciPy, and scikit-learn; Ideal candidates will have experience not only using these libraries but also modifying them
  • Experience with python programming and software engineering best practices; Ideal candidates will have an active track record on Github/Gitlab, contributing to open-source repositories or building their own repositories
  • Strong work ethic and drive; Appetite for working at the frontiers of quantum technology
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively share information with technical and non-technical staff
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new and complex topics quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with all levels of an organization; Professional-level communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, and team-oriented environment
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to thrive and produce results in a fluid, dynamic, and fast-paced environment; Orientation towards execution
  • Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively share information with technical and non-technical staff
