The Role


The Quality Assurance Assistant (QAA) supports the Quality Assurance team (QA team) as part of the Methodology department in ensuring that the data produced by ACLED is accurate, methodologically consistent and aligned with internal standards.


This position is internal and open to all the current ACLED team members.
 
The position will be formally supervised by the Quality Assurance team Coordinator, though also by other senior members of the Methodology department; seconded to different RMs, as needed.


Position Responsibilities


  • Conduct regular global data quality and methodological reviews of ACLED data, including targeted checks requested by Regional Desks or Methodology Coordinators, collaborating with Researchers and other teams to identify, resolve and prevent recurring issues and errors.
  • Monitor data submissions for accuracy, consistency, and methodological compliance, identifying trends, gaps, or changes, and implementing corrective actions through regular QA checks and the new monthly Final Review system.
  • Collaborate with GDC Desks and other teams (Analysis, Data Science) on specific cross-cutting projects to conduct quality reviews and provide support as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate QA-specific reviews using Asana, aligning tasks and activities with team priorities and timelines.
  • Support lead and oversee larger QA projects, collaborating with other QAAs as well as Researchers and their teams to ensure timely delivery, in line with the QA team annual plan.
  • Support internal training, documentation, and knowledge sharing on quality, methodology, and good review practices across all data production teams.
  • Provide specific ad hoc support to GDC Desks on real-time data review and other review-related needs.
  • Participate in QA and Methodology team meetings, contributing insights to methodology and quality decision-making.

 

ACLED is seeking applicants who meet the following requirements/skills:


  • In-depth knowledge of ACLED methodology and commitment to data accuracy (essential).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including formulas and data manipulation, including handling large datasets (extracting, combining, and modifying data) while ensuring data accuracy and integrity (essential); experience with PowerBI and Tableau are a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data considering regional conflict context (essential).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and openness to feedback (essential).
  • Problem solving and result-oriented approach, with high capacity for time management.
  • Background in research or professional experience in conflict studies, peacebuilding, or related fields (preferred).
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. Additional languages are a plus.


Terms and Conditions


  • Salary Band: 40.000-44.000 USD (annually)
  • Hiring modality: ACLED Contractor
  • Position will initially be until August 2026, at which point needs will be evaluated and the contract may be converted to a permanent position or a return to contracted Researcher position will be facilitated.
