Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved.  Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

We recently raised $75 million to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D.  We partner with many of the world’s leading quantum computing companies and governments to accelerate their path to utility-scale quantum computers. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast. Join us!

About the role

As quantum computing enters a new phase - the ‘QEC era’ - marked by significant advancements in quantum error correction, Riverlane’s customers are integrating Deltaflow with their existing quantum computing control systems, and demonstrating the first steps toward error-correcting capability.

We’re excited to launch this fantastic QEC Integration Engineer opportunity which will play a critical role in the QEC journey for our customers and partners.

Working closely with Riverlane’s customers and leveraging the learnings from our work with varied quantum computing systems, you will be instrumental in supporting each customer on their individual journey to integrating Deltaflow with their control systems, supporting them to achieve their first QEC results.

What you will do

As QEC Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful integration of Deltaflow with the control systems of Riverlane’s customers and partners.

In addition, you will use your background in experimental physics or engineering, along with your proven track record of programming various pieces of laboratory equipment toward rapid experimentation, to support Riverlane’s customers and partners toward their first QEC results.  As Riverlane works with many different partners, across all qubit types, you will gain exposure to working with many different control systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Enable our North America-based customers (predominantly US) with varied laboratory equipment by identifying the most effective ways to integrate Riverlane’s quantum error correction system Deltaflow
  • Use Riverlane’s software tools and Deltaflow for rapid QEC experiment prototyping in collaboration with our customers
  • Present QEC integration and experimentation results at conferences, publications, and other relevant avenues
  • Influence Deltaflow’s product development by advocating for the needs of our customers
  • Work with stakeholders across Riverlane to influence the creation of educational content that can accelerate a new QEC customer’s journey
  • Champion a culture where Riverlane shares the QEC success stories of customers to benefit the wider QEC community

Requirements

What we need

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, experimental physics (or related field). PhD preferred but note this is not a research role.
  • Proven experience with quantum laboratory equipment instrumentation experience (in industry or academia)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and use experimental setups from various pieces of laboratory equipment, particularly in the areas of electrical engineering, hardware engineering, physics, and quantum computation
  • Experience with programming interfaces to laboratory equipment (e.g. GPIB, LAN), and debugging them as needed by using their datasheet
  • Deep experience using Python and/or other lab instrumentation languages (e.g. Matlab) for controlling quantum lab infrastructure
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America (mainly the US) to customer and partner sites (Ability to obtain US government clearance if required)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas with a variety of audiences, in a clear and simple way
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • A passion for learning and a curious, solution-oriented mindset

Even better if you have

  • Strong track record of working collaboratively with research and product development teams to enable customers and partners
  • Experience in VHDL or Verilog and programming FPGAs (strongly preferred), especially in a quantum computing experimental setting
  • Familiarity with quantum error correction concepts and protocols
  • Hands on experience with Networking (cabling, racking, Linux)
  • Desktop support experience (Linux, Windows and/or MAC)
