Join a dynamic team at exnaton, building a reliable SaaS platform that drives the energy transition through software for tracking renewable energy consumption.
exnaton is a startup, spun out of ETH Zurich, which offers software for renewable energy to utility companies. Our software enables energy providers to set up energy communities and smart energy tariffs in their distribution areas. Users of our software can track their energy consumption and buy renewable energy from their neighbors, which makes investing in the energy transition simple and fun!
Our team is growing and we are looking for a QA Engineer who is passionate about software quality and wants to make a real impact in the energy transition. You will play a key role in ensuring that our cloud platform — which processes smart meter data and computes real-time energy prices — is reliable, performant, and delightful to use.
The job can be performed remotely in EU countries.
As a QA Engineer at exnaton, you will join our 35-person team and help us build a high-quality, reliable SaaS platform from the ground up. You will be the quality guardian across our engineering and product teams, ensuring that what we ship works — and works well.
We are seeking someone who will support us in the following areas:
Test Strategy & Planning: Design and maintain test plans, test cases, and QA processes across our web application, APIs, and data pipelines. Define quality standards for new features from day one,
Test Automation: Build and maintain automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end) in close collaboration with engineering. Continuously improve test coverage and reliability,
API & Data Quality Testing: Validate REST API behaviour, reliability of data ingestion, and correctness of computations. Work closely with our backend engineers on integration testing,
Manual & Exploratory Testing: Execute functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across our platform. Identify edge cases and usability issues before they reach production. Collaborate with the UX & Product teams to understand edge cases and usability issues and cover them in the automated test scenarios appropriately,
Bug Tracking & Reporting: Document, prioritize, and track defects with clear reproduction steps. Work with product and engineering to ensure timely resolution,
Release Readiness: Own the QA sign-off process for releases. Coordinate with engineering and product to ensure new features meet quality gates before deployment,
Process Improvement: Identify gaps in our QA processes and tooling. Propose and implement improvements as the team and product scale.
We define ourselves by a culture of collaboration and ownership. We're looking for a driven, capable, and detail-oriented person to add to our mission. We are looking for someone who:
Has proven track record in QA engineering or software testing, ideally in a SaaS or cloud environment,
Is proficient in designing and executing automated test plans, test cases, and regression suites,
Has hands-on experience testing REST APIs (e.g. using Postman, Insomnia, or similar),
Is interested in leveraging AI tools and educating themselves on possibilities of new technologies,
Is familiar with at least one test automation framework (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, pytest),
Has a structured, analytical mindset and strong attention to detail,
Communicates clearly in English — written and verbal — and can document issues precisely.
We would consider it a big plus if you have:
Experience testing data-intensive applications or platforms processing time-series / IoT data,
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and experience integrating automated tests into build workflows,
Familiarity with cloud-native environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, or Azure),
Experience with performance or load testing,
Background in energy, utilities, or B2B enterprise SaaS.
At exnaton, you can experience a dynamic work environment with a flat hierarchy and direct communication, fostering quick operation and collaborative learning. You can also expect the following:
Competitive salary and equity package,
Flexible working hours and location, as we believe in ownership and trust. We are a remote-first company, and we support those working from different locations (within the EU),
Yearly entitlement of 25 days of paid leave with an additional day off for each year of employment,
Additional benefits such as a company MacBook, a learning budget, sports membership, or Headspace subscription,

Working with exciting technology for a really important purpose, together with a highly motivated team.
