Position Overview

As the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program Director at Blackbird Health, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of pediatric psychiatric care providers. Reporting to the VP of Medical Services, you'll lead the development, implementation, and management of our PMHNP Residency Program; building a structured, accredited training pathway that prepares recent graduates to practice with confidence as specialists in child and adolescent mental health. You'll create the curriculum, mentor residents through their clinical journey, and ensure they're equipped with the skills and support needed to provide cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment in an interdisciplinary outpatient model. This is a unique opportunity to build a program from the ground up while directly impacting the quality of care thousands of children and families receive.

What Makes You, You:

  • Mission-Driven: You are passionate about transforming behavioral health for youth and committed to advancing the next generation of psychiatric nurse practitioners who will deliver high-quality, compassionate care.
  • Clinically Excellent: You are an experienced PMHNP with at least 3 years in pediatric mental health and a deep understanding of evidence-based practices. You bring clinical expertise with a warm, patient-centered approach and have worked independently at the top of your scope.
  • Educator & Mentor: You have experience in educational or leadership roles and excel at training, developing, and motivating medical professionals. You love watching residents grow into confident, skilled practitioners.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in team-based environments and love working alongside clinical and administrative teams to promote a culture of exceptional patient care and integration.
  • Growth-Oriented: You are committed to continuous learning and staying current on regulatory requirements, accreditation standards (especially CAPP), and best practices in psychiatric education and residency training.
  • Organized & Strategic: You have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You can design systems, create structure, and manage performance effectively in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using technology, including Google Suite, EMR systems, and virtual platforms to support curriculum delivery, evaluations, and communication.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Develop the Residency Program Structure: Design and implement the complete residency framework including program duration, preclinical education and shadowing stages, optimal ramp schedules, and visit mixture for each week during the ramp period.
  • Build the Curriculum: Develop and codify the residency curriculum including a seminar schedule focused on PMHNP-specific topics such as interviewing, assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of assessments, medication management, and therapy interventions.
  • Lead Accreditation Efforts: Develop a solid working knowledge of the accreditation process within 6 months and become a content expert on Consortium for Advanced Practice Providers (CAPP) requirements within one year. Lead the program toward accreditation.
  • Mentor & Train Residents: Provide leadership, mentoring, and hands-on training to residents as they transition from graduate school to professional practice. Foster relationships that support their long-term success in the PMHNP profession.
  • Design Evaluation Systems: Create and implement a comprehensive evaluation system that provides residents with consistent feedback, tracks their progress, and supports their growth into confident Blackbird NPs with increasing responsibilities.
  • Manage Performance: Appropriately respond to performance issues and create performance improvement plans that effectively support residents in meeting their goals and clinical standards.
  • Collaborate for Program Success: Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to ensure residents are integrated into Blackbird Health's culture of exceptional, whole-child care.
