Project Manager - Design

TLDR

Manage multidisciplinary design projects, ensuring successful outcomes by leading teams and fostering client relationships while adhering to budget and quality goals.

The Design Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering multidisciplinary design projects in support of CRB’s Architecture and Engineering practices. This role focuses on managing the design phase of projects - from early planning through design development and client delivery - ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality goals are met.

The Design Project Manager serves as the primary point of accountability for project performance, leading internal design teams, coordinating across disciplines, and maintaining strong client relationships. This role partners closely with discipline leads and design leadership to drive successful project outcomes, client satisfaction, and repeat business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary design projects, coordinating architectural and engineering teams through all phases of design delivery
  • Develop and manage project work plans, schedules, and budgets to support high-quality, on-time, and on-budget design execution
  • Serve as the primary client contact during the design phase, fostering trusted relationships and ensuring a positive client experience
  • Facilitate clear communication and collaboration across internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders
  • Monitor project progress, risks, and changes; proactively identify and address scope, schedule, or budget impacts
  • Ensure adherence to CRB’s design standards, quality procedures, and project controls
  • Support project staffing needs in coordination with discipline leaders
  • Track and report project performance metrics, including financials, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction
  • Contribute to business development efforts by supporting client relationships and identifying opportunities for follow-on work
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant project management experience, preferably within an architecture or engineering design firm
  • Demonstrated experience managing design projects or serving as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager on complex, multidisciplinary teams

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to lead and influence diverse design teams
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced design environment
  • Foundational understanding of architectural and engineering disciplines and the design project lifecycle
  • Professional certification (e.g., PMP, AECPM™) is preferred or willingness to obtain
