Project Manager, Commercial Solar
TLDR
Lead high-impact commercial renewable energy projects with a focus on utility coordination and permitting, ensuring project execution meets both schedule and budget requirements.
We are looking for a Project Manager, Commercial Solar (LADWP / Utility-Focused) to lead commercial solar and energy construction projects throughout the Santa Fe Springs, CA area, with a strong focus on utility coordination, permitting, and full project execution ownership.
This role operates within a commercial solar and energy contractor environment and is responsible for driving projects from planning through closeout while coordinating field teams, schedules, utilities, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. The position is heavily execution-focused and requires someone who can independently run technically complex projects without excessive oversight. This is not a coordinator-style role — the ideal candidate will have direct commercial solar project ownership experience within Southern California jurisdictions and utility environments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee commercial solar and energy construction projects from preconstruction through final completion across the Santa Fe Springs and Greater Los Angeles market
- Manage permitting, utility coordination, scheduling, procurement, and field execution activities across multiple active projects
- Interface directly with LADWP, Southern California Edison, AHJs, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain project momentum
- Read and interpret construction drawings, electrical plans, specifications, and utility documentation to support field execution
- Lead project meetings, track schedules, and proactively resolve construction, utility, and permitting issues before they impact timelines
- Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and installation teams to ensure quality, safety, and production goals are met
- Maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, schedules, and closeout documentation
- Support leadership by reducing operational bottlenecks and independently driving project execution with minimal hand-holding
- Monitor project budgets, material flow, and labor utilization to help maintain profitability and project efficiency
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience managing commercial solar, renewable energy, electrical, or EPC construction projects
- Direct experience managing commercial solar projects within Southern California required
- Strong LADWP experience highly preferred; Southern California Edison coordination experience strongly preferred
- Experience working in a commercial EPC, energy contractor, or self-perform construction environment
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical plans, and technical project documentation
- Must have direct project ownership experience managing schedules, permitting, utility coordination, and field execution
- Strong understanding of utility interconnection, permitting workflows, inspections, and AHJ coordination
- Residential-only project management experience will not be sufficient for this role
- Engineering, construction management, or electrical background preferred
- Experience with battery storage, EV infrastructure, or multifamily energy projects is a plus
Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Health insurance and benefits package
- Retirement plan options
- Paid time off
- Opportunity to lead high-impact commercial renewable energy projects in one of the country's most active solar markets
