BoxPower is looking for a motivated Project Manager to join our delivery team responsible for bringing microgrid projects from sales through construction closeout. The Project Manager will interface with BoxPower’s internal technology teams, external/subcontracted engineers, installation subcontractors and internal field teams to deliver microgrid systems to customers ranging from large to small utilities and C&I customers. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders and is accountable for project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and client satisfaction. 

  

This role reports to Director of Project Management and can be performed remotely, hybrid or in-person at BoxPower HQ in Grass Valley, CA with occasional required travel to project sites or Grass Valley HQ. 

  

Responsibilities:   

Project Leadership & Administration 

  • Lead all phases of the project lifecycle from design through final commissioning. 
  • Lead internal and external coordination meetings, ensuring alignment between clients, subcontractors, field operations, and other stakeholders. 
  • Oversee and ensure timely management and submission of all project documentation, including: 
  • Contracts and amendments 
  • Engineering design submittals 
  • RFIs 
  • Change orders 
  • Meeting agendas and minutes 
  • Establish project controls, workflows, and documentation standards within project management systems. 
  • Mentor and oversee Assistant Project Managers and Coordinators. 
  • Support and lead process creation activities, including creating templates and tools to improve team and company efficiency. 

  

Cost & Financial Management & Procurement 

  • Own and manage the project budget, cost tracking, forecasting, and monthly financial reports. 
  • Prepare and review client billings and subcontractor pay applications. 
  • Issue RFPs to bidders to complete scopes of work for projects. 
  • Lead procurement efforts, subcontract negotiations, and subcontract issuance. 
  • Manage and negotiate change orders with clients and subcontractors. 
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks throughout the project lifecycle. 

  

Scheduling & Coordination 

  • Develop, manage, and maintain the overall project schedule using Microsoft Project or similar software. 
  • Identify sequencing risks, long-lead items, and logistical constraints, and proactively implement mitigation strategies. 
  • Submit timely permit applications to AHJs. 

  

Field Execution, Quality & Safety 

  • Perform site visits to monitor construction progress, quality, and safety compliance. 
  • Collaborate with construction teams to resolve field issues and implement corrective actions as needed. 
  • Ensure QA/QC standards are met and oversee punch list completion and closeout activities. 
  • Champion safety culture and ensure compliance with company and site safety requirements. 

  

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. 
  • 3-5 years of project management experience, preferably in execution of energy projects or construction. 
  • Demonstrated success managing projects through completion with full budget and schedule responsibility. 
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, drawings, specifications, and contracts. 
  • Strong computer skills with project/task management software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PPT). 
  • Knowledge of Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar project management tools. Ability to learn new software programs. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), negotiation, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  

Preferred Experience 

  • 5-10 years of experience managing energy projects, preferably solar and/or BESS projects for utilities or C&I clients. 
  • Masters degree or advanced education and certifications, such as PMP. 
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to drive accountability across teams. 
  • Proactive problem solver with sound judgment and decision-making skills. 
  • Collaborative team player who can mentor and develop junior staff. 
Salary
$125,000 – $135,000 per year
