Product Owner - Payments Operations Platform

TLDR

Lead the development of the payments operations platform, enhancing tools and workflows that support compliance, risk management, and operational efficiency in a rapidly scaling fintech environment.

Capital.com is a global fintech building trading and investment products used by millions of clients across multiple regulated markets. Our platform sits at the intersection of complex financial infrastructure and intuitive user experience - and the technology powering it is what sets us apart. As we scale, we're strengthening the product teams behind our core financial operations and are looking for a Product Owner - Payments Operations Platform to lead one of the most critical internal domains. This role focuses on building and evolving the agent-facing payments back office - the tools, workflows, and systems used by Operations, Risk, and Compliance teams to manage deposits, withdrawals, verification, and transaction oversight. You will define the vision, roadmap, and execution strategy for this platform, working closely with Engineering, Design, Data, Payments Core, and Compliance stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient operational tooling. Your mission
Improve the efficiency, control, and scalability of payments operations by:
  • Reducing manual effort through automation and better tooling
  • Increasing speed and accuracy of operational decisions
  • Strengthening controls across deposits, withdrawals, and verification flows
  • Providing clear visibility into transactions and payment states
  • Your responsibilities
  • Own product vision, strategy, and execution for the Payments Operations Platform
  • Lead development of agent-facing tools across key domains:
  • Bank Deposit Review & Automation (queues, rules engine, validations)
  • Payment Method Verification (integration orchestration with providers like Sumsub / KYCAID)
  • Withdrawal Processing (manual review, approvals, escalations)
  • Transaction lifecycle management & visualisation (unified operational view and control)
  • Bulk Payment Operations (batch processing tools)
  • Drive continuous improvements in payment UI and operational workflows on a quarterly basis
  • Optimize key metrics such as processing time, error rates, automation rate, and operational load
  • Translate complex operational and business requirements into a clear, prioritized backlog
  • Work closely with Payments Core teams while maintaining clear ownership boundaries (operations tooling vs processing layer)
  • Manage integrations and external interfaces across payments operations domains
  • Align stakeholders across Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering
  • Scope clarification
This role focuses on back-office tooling and operational workflows, not on:
  • PSP integrations or payment processing pipelines
  • Client-facing payment UX (e.g. deposit forms)
  • We're looking for
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner / Product Manager in fintech, payments, or a regulated environment
  • Strong understanding of payments operations, including deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliation workflows
  • Experience building or improving internal tools / operational platforms
  • Familiarity with verification flows (KYC/KYB), payment methods, and transaction lifecycles
  • Ability to work with APIs, backend systems, and engineering teams on system design decisions
  • Strong analytical mindset with a focus on operational efficiency and automation
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders across Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering
  • Comfortable owning a single-threaded team and driving delivery end-to-end
  • Nice to have
  • Experience with rule engines, automation systems, or decisioning frameworks
  • Exposure to providers like Sumsub, KYCAID, or similar verification tools
  • Understanding of IBAN validation, name matching, and payment risk controls
  • Why this role matters
Payments operations is where customer experience, risk control, and business efficiency intersect. This role sits at the heart of that system - turning complex, manual processes into scalable, reliable products.

If you want to push this even further, the next upgrade would be making responsibilities more impact-driven (with metrics) instead of activity-based - that’s usually what attracts stronger candidates.
