Product Manager, Loyalty and Checkout

TLDR

Own and optimize the Summit Club+ loyalty program and lower funnel experiences to enhance customer engagement and drive business impact in a fast-paced environment.

At Backcountry, our mission is to connect people to their passions. Our four online stores—Backcountry, Competitive Cyclist, MotoSport and, SteepandCheap—aim to supply our customers with the gear, knowledge, and inspiration necessary to get out there and chase down life’s greatest moments. We do this by providing the biggest and best assortment of premium outdoor products, superior shopping experience, personalized Gearhead expertise, lightning-fast and accurate fulfillment, and inspirational, informative, and community-centered content.    We are looking for a Product Manager to own two of the most critical areas of our business: our paid loyalty program, Summit Club+, and the lower funnel experience, including cart, checkout, order confirmation, wishlist, and post purchase moments.   This role sits at the intersection of growth, customer experience, and monetization. You will be responsible for maximizing conversion rate optimization across the lower funnel while amplifying the strong early momentum of Summit Club+ and evolving it into the best loyalty program in the outdoor industry.   This is a high impact role with direct influence on revenue, margin, and customer lifetime value. You will operate in a fast paced environment with minimal layers of management and meaningful ownership from day one.   This role reports to the Vice President of Product and UX. What you get to do every day:

Own Summit Club+ loyalty strategy and execution

  • Own the product vision, roadmap, and execution for Summit Club+, Backcountry’s paid loyalty subscription.
  • Partner with marketing, analytics, and finance to grow membership, improve retention, and increase member lifetime value.
  • Define and evolve benefits, experiences, and mechanics that differentiate Summit Club+.
  • Integrate loyalty across the full customer journey.
  • Drive lower funnel conversion and experience:

  • Own the cart, checkout, receipt, wishlist, and post purchase experience.
  • Lead CRO initiatives across the lower funnel.
  • Balance speed, clarity, trust, and margin.
  • Ship fast, high quality improvements with engineering.
  • Data driven growth and optimization

  • Define success metrics for loyalty and funnel initiatives.
  • Use experimentation and analysis to prioritize work.
  • Adjust strategy based on performance.
  • Cross functional leadership

  • Work closely with engineering, design, marketing, merchandising, analytics, and operations
  • Translate business goals into product requirements.
  • Influence strategy through clear communication.
  • What you bring to the role:
  • 3–5+ years of progressive product management experience, ideally within eCommerce or consumer-facing digital products.
  • Proven track record owning and scaling checkout, subscriptions, loyalty, or retention programs with measurable business impact.
  • Demonstrated success driving conversion rate optimization (CRO) and growth initiatives, with the ability to connect experimentation outcomes to revenue and retention metrics.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, with hands-on experience designing, executing, and interpreting A/B and multivariate experiments.
  • Ability to ship iteratively and decisively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments while balancing short-term delivery with long-term product vision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and clearly articulate product decisions at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with analytics and data tools such as GA4, Looker, SQL, or equivalent platforms to independently derive insights and inform roadmap prioritization.
  • AI for this role:

Our Product & UX team uses AI as a regular part of how work gets done, not as a novelty, and not as a shortcut, but as a genuine upgrade to the quality and speed of the work itself.

  • In practice, that looks like pulling live context from your project management, design, and documentation tools so you're not writing requirements from a blank page.
  • It looks like grounding priorities in data before bringing work to the roadmap, and spinning up a working prototype when a slide deck would take longer and say less.
  • It looks like automating the repetitive parts of your workflow so the team spends its time on work that actually requires a human.
  • And it looks like building prompt systems and workflow patterns that you share with the team, because good practices shouldn't stay siloed.
  • You don't need to have used every tool on day one. We do expect genuine curiosity, a willingness to build and share what you learn, and the discipline to own every output you put your name on, however it was made.
