Position Overview
The Product Intake Team Lead - SpryCIS shapes what gets built and why by serving as the main entry point for all SpryCIS product work. You'll be the critical bridge between market demand and product execution - transforming client needs, market signals, and strategic opportunities into well-defined product work that drives SpryCIS forward.
This player-coach role leads a 2-person team that owns the discovery phase of product development. You'll decide which problems are worth solving, refine unclear requirements, and ensure every Epic has clear business value before it reaches the development teams. You'll spot market trends that others miss and surface opportunities that shape the SpryCIS roadmap.
What makes this role unique: You operate at the intersection of market intelligence, technical validation, and product strategy. While many product roles are either purely strategic or purely tactical, this role requires both - you'll lead discovery sessions with utility clients in the morning and orchestrate SOW responses across Product Owners and technical SMEs in the afternoon.
Time allocation: 50% discovery and Epic development, 20% cross-product coordination and technical validation, 20% people leadership, 10% market intelligence and strategy.
💥 You'll have real authority to:
Reject poorly-defined requirements and challenge proposals when commitments aren't feasible
Shape which opportunities make it onto the SpryCIS roadmap through trend analysis and prioritization
Define what "ready" means for Epics and hold teams accountable to quality standards
Partner with Product Owner Team Leads as a peer to balance workload and coordinate complex discovery
Critical accountabilities:
Deliver Epics with ROM accuracy within 50% growth margin after Solution Design
Final technical review of all SOW content before contractual commitment
Coordinate multi-product SOWs with Point Solutions Group Product Manager
Surface market trends and high-value opportunities that influence product strategy
🛠 Responsibilities
Lead discovery to uncover the real business problems behind client requests - you'll challenge "build this feature" and dig deeper to understand "solve this problem"
Facilitate discovery sessions with enterprise utility clients, Sales, and internal stakeholders
Validate business value and challenge technically-focused requests lacking clear rationale
Decide what's worth building and what's not - you're the quality gatekeeper before work enters the pipeline
Create Well-Defined Epics:
Transform ambiguous requests into clear product work: What problem? What process? What outcomes? What effort?
Develop preliminary solution designs that balance client needs with technical feasibility
Generate ROM estimates that Product Owner Teams can trust and refine (target: -10% to +50% variance)
Set the standard for Epic quality across the organization
Enable Product Owner Teams:
Deliver "ready" Epics that Product Owner Teams can immediately begin Solution Design
Partner with Product Owner Team Leads to balance discovery workload and tackle complex challenges together
Continuously improve handoff quality based on feedback and ROM accuracy tracking
Cross-Product Coordination & Technical Validation (20%)
Multi-Product SOW Leadership:
Orchestrate SOW responses spanning SpryCIS and Point Solutions - you're the quarterback bringing it all together
Engage the right Product Owners at the right time through coordination with Product Owner Team Leads and Point Solutions Group Product Manager
Synthesize technical contributions into compelling, cohesive proposals
Manage cross-product dependencies and ensure nothing falls through the cracks
Technical Validation & Risk Management:
Final technical review of all SOW content - you're the last line of defense before contractual commitment
Validate technical feasibility, identify risks, and work with Sales to refine infeasible commitments
Propose viable alternatives when initial proposals need adjustment
Maintain deep SpryCIS expertise and working knowledge of Point Solutions capabilities
Process Excellence:
Drive RFP/SOW responses to meet 13-day SLA while maintaining quality
Act as trusted liaison between Sales and Product Development
Track and improve process metrics: response times, win rates, estimation accuracy
People Leadership (20%)
Develop Your Team Member:
Weekly coaching on discovery techniques, business value articulation, and stakeholder management
Delegate strategically while maintaining accountability for quality and delivery
Model the analytical rigor, technical depth, and collaborative approach that defines great product work
Partner with Group Product Manager on performance management and career development
Build capability to scale the team as SpryCIS grows
Market Intelligence & Strategic Influence (10%)
Spot Opportunities Others Miss:
Identify market trends and patterns across hundreds of client requests - distinguish signal from noise
Manage ProdPad ideation portal and apply scoring methods to surface high-value opportunities
Influence the SpryCIS roadmap by bringing data-driven insights to Group Product Manager and Product Owner Teams
Educate Sales on product capabilities and strategic direction
Surface quick wins that deliver immediate client value
⭐ Qualifications:
3+ years hands-on CIS experience - you know utility billing systems, not just product management theory
3+ years leading discovery and requirements gathering - you've created Epics (or similar) that teams actually wanted to build from
Business value articulation - you naturally ask "what problem does this solve?" not just "what should we build?"
Cross-product coordination experience - you've successfully synthesized input from multiple teams under pressure
1+ years people management or mentorship - you've developed others, not just done the work yourself
Technical depth - you can assess solution feasibility, review integrations, identify risks, and write specifications that developers respect
ROM estimation experience - you understand Epic-level estimation and track accuracy over time
Pattern recognition skills - you spot trends in data that others miss
Product management tools - ProdPad, Aha!, ProductBoard, or similar; experience with prioritization frameworks
Communication excellence - you facilitate discovery sessions, write clear documentation, and translate between technical and business stakeholders
Diplomatic influence - you can challenge proposals, refine unclear requirements, and guide stakeholders toward better solutions while maintaining strong relationships
Stakeholder management - you've successfully navigated complex organizations with competing priorities
🚀 This Role is a Great Fit If You:
Love discovery - understanding client problems energizes you more than pixel-perfect roadmaps
Thrive at intersections - you like operating between strategy and execution, not purely one or the other
Enjoy influence without full control - you shape what gets built through insight and expertise, not positional authority
Prefer hands-on influence - you'd rather shape product through great discovery work than through hierarchical authority
Like fast-paced environments - variety and urgency excite you; you don't need predictable, slow-burn projects
Want to scale your impact - you see this as a foundation to grow the team, evolve the role, or move into broader product leadership
🙅This Role is Not a Great Fit If You:
You want to own a roadmap end-to-end (this is discovery, not delivery)
You prefer deep strategy work over tactical execution
You need predictable, low-pressure work cycles
You're looking for a large team management role (starting with 1 direct report)
You want to avoid sales-driven or client-facing work
