Process-Water Treatment Plant Mechanical Technician

The Mechanical Technician – Water Treatment Plant provides essential mechanical support to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Haile’s WTP. This role maintains, troubleshoots, and optimizes WTP mechanical systems and equipment—including pumps, piping, clarifiers, filtration, and chemical handling—supporting environmental compliance, operational efficiency, and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, overhaul, and troubleshoot pumps and rotating equipment.
  • Lay out, fit, and repair PVC, HDPE, and Victaulic piping systems.
  • Maintain clarifiers, agitators, blowers, and filtration systems.
  • Inspect, clean, and replace strainers and microfiltration components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Execute mechanical PMs, create notifications, and update work orders in Pronto.
  • Apply LOTOTO and safe rigging practices; operate cranes and mobile equipment.
  • Participate in on-call rotation using company-issued phone.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing, sitting, climbing stairs, and manual dexterity.
  • Clear vision, hearing, and communication required for safety.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in a surface-mine WTP environment with variable conditions.
  • Required PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, FR clothing, and more.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.
  • Participation in on-call rotation with company-issued phone.
  • Proficiency with LOTOTO, mechanical guarding, rigging, and crane operation.
  • Strong fundamentals with centrifugal, slurry, and rotary pumps.
  • Pipefitting and fabrication with PVC, HDPE, and Victaulic.
  • Basic hydraulic/pneumatic troubleshooting.
  • Experience with measurement tools, torqueing, and fastener selection.
  • Ability to execute PMs and document work in Pronto.
  • Advanced pump work including seal installation and vertical turbine pumps.
  • HDPE fusion and advanced blueprint comprehension.
  • Bearing/seal setting, run-out checks, and Hytorc tool use.
  • Laser alignment capabilities.
  • Advanced structural layout and welding skills.
  • Advanced compressor diagnostics and hydraulic troubleshooting.
