Provide electrical and instrumentation expertise that ensures safe, reliable operation of the Water Treatment Plant. This role maintains, troubleshoots, and optimizes WTP electrical power, control systems, and process instrumentation in alignment with environmental compliance and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot pH/ORP, turbidity, conductivity, temperature, flow, and level instruments (radar/ultrasonic/pressure).
- Maintain final control elements including control valves, actuators, and chemical dosing skids; tune discrete/continuous loops for flow, level, and dosing.
- Perform PLC/SCADA I/O diagnostics (digital/analog), assist controls engineers with signal health, and document changes/red‑lines.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC circuits, single‑/three‑phase systems, and 480V MCC equipment.
- Commission and troubleshoot VFDs (480V), soft starts, and motor starter circuits; verify proper rotation, overload settings, and interlocks.
- Execute conduit installations, cable routing, and terminations for power, control, and instrumentation; maintain grounding and bonding integrity.
- Support operational reliability of pumps, blowers, lift stations, filters, clarifiers, RO (if applicable), sumps, basins, and tanks.
- Respond to upsets with operators; perform root‑cause troubleshooting and corrective work.
- Apply LOTOTO and NFPA 70E requirements; select and use appropriate arc‑flash PPE.
- Maintain instrument accuracy supporting environmental compliance and reporting.
- Perform PMs for instruments, drives, MCCs, and motors; create notifications and work orders; provide clear feedback to planners.
- Keep prints, device reports, and loop sheets current (red‑line and as‑built updates).
- Participation in on‑call rotation, requiring timely response using the assigned on‑call phone.
- Other duties as required.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, sit, climb stairs, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly to perform work safely.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work performed in a surface‑mine water treatment environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, water, and chemical conditions.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel‑toe boots, FR clothing, gloves, and respirator when necessary.
- Must be able to navigate uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated work areas as required by the job.
- Proven LOTOTO, NFPA 70E arc‑flash PPE, and practical NEC understanding.
- Proficiency reading/using electrical and instrumentation prints; wiring motor starter circuits; conduit installs (offsets/saddles); and terminating control/instrument cables.
- Hands‑on mastery with WTP instrumentation: pH/ORP, turbidity, conductivity, temperature, flow, and level (radar/ultrasonic/pressure); experience with device communicators (SMT70 or equivalent).
- Experience with 480V VFDs (commissioning and troubleshooting), soft starts, across‑the‑line starters.
- PLC/SCADA familiarity for I/O diagnostics (no programming required).
- Competence with control valves and modulating valves; loop tuning.
- CMMS proficiency (Pronto) for notifications, work orders, and feedback.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to work outdoors in all weather.
- Fiber optic termination/troubleshooting; OTDR basics where SCADA uses fiber.
- Complex PLC/I/O drawings and disciplined red‑lining practices.
- MV VFD board‑level diagnostics; device report uploads.
- Fiber fusion splicing; advanced radar tank mapping.
