About the Role:

Crunchyroll is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the development, architecture, and evolution of our core digital media supply chain systems that power our global streaming platform. 

You will partner closely with the Principal Solutions Architect for Digital Supply Chain, as well as Digital Supply Chain Operations, Production Technology, Business Transformation, and Engineering teams to define and implement the next generation of scalable, automated workflows across video, audio, subtitles, artwork, and metadata. 

This role is hands-on and highly technical, combining deep media pipeline engineering expertise with cloud-native architecture, modern software development, and a strong drive for innovation and modernization across the supply chain ecosystem.

What You’ll Do:

About You:

• Design and build scalable, automated digital media supply chain services across ingestion, transformation, QC, and delivery
• Architect cloud native microservices and event-driven workflows to support high-volume processing of video, audio, subtitle, artwork, and metadata assets
• Partner with the Principal Solutions Architect to translate architectural vision into high-quality, production-ready engineering solutions
• Collaborate with engineering and product leads to define technical requirements, roadmap priorities, and implementation strategies
• Improve observability, monitoring, logging, and operational automation throughout the pipeline
• Drive innovation initiatives, prototyping, and exploration of new workflow optimizations and next-generation supply chain capabilities
• Mentor engineers, participate in design reviews, and raise engineering quality across the organization

What We’re Looking For

• 15+ years of software engineering experience across large-scale distributed or cloud-native systems
• Proven experience building media supply chain, OTT, or DTC streaming workflows
• Strong knowledge of metadata standards, content hierarchy, track mappings, artwork workflows
• Hands-on expertise with AWS or GCP, cloud-native architectures, serverless services, and distributed systems
• Strong development experience in Python, with exposure to Node.js/TypeScript or similar languages
• Experience integrating with MAM, Rights Management, localization, ordering, or entitlement systems
• Ability to influence and lead technical direction across multiple teams without direct authority
• Excellent problem-solving ability and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
• Strong communication skills and ability to shape engineering decisions across the organization
