The Job

We’re seeking a visionary leader who deeply understands the product life cycle, can champion user needs, and drives impactful product decisions using data and market awareness.

In this pivotal leadership position, your influence will be felt across the company and industry, shaping our strategic direction and driving critical decisions. You’ll work cross-functionally, seamlessly bridging technical and business worlds. With your seasoned expertise, you will tackle the intricate challenges of seamless transactions, robust fraud prevention, and stringent regulatory compliance within a decoupled services framework. Your technical acumen will be crucial as you delve deeply into our distributed systems framework. 

As a key owner, influencer, and thought leader across our company, you’ll dissect complex problems into clear roadmaps that drive product innovation. This role is initially an individual contributor, offering many opportunities for company wide leadership - from mentoring budding talent to helming key initiatives - but could grow to include people management responsibilities in the future.

As Principal Product Manager at Tango, you will:

  • Think Big: Not constrained by resources available today or today’s market environment. The person in this role has the ability to describe large disruptive opportunities, and develop concrete plans for how to take advantage of them.
  • Simplify: Gets 80% of the value out of any feature or project with 20% of the effort and does so repeatedly, launching more and achieving compounding effects for the business and our customers.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: A demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customer success teams to prioritize features, set product goals, and plan deliverables.
  • User-Centric Approach: A significant, proven track record in leading development of products that resonate with users, understanding their needs deeply, and iterating on feedback. An ability to appreciate great design and be able to distinguish it from good design. Consistently able to articulate the difference to their design counterparts, or at least articulate directions to pursue to go from good to great.
  • Market Awareness: An authority on current market trends, opportunities, and threats in the SaaS industry, and adapts the product strategy accordingly. 
  • Risk Management: Demonstrated ability to foresee potential risks in product development and strategy, and to create mitigation plans that don’t compromise the user experience.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Possesses exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to define and track key metrics to assess product performance, as well as iterate on features to improve user satisfaction and business outcomes. Independently figures out the data that’s important and how to get it. Data is the lifeblood of this person and nothing gets in the way of obtaining the data they need to make the optimal decision.
  • Communication: Uses exceptional written and verbal communication and data presentation skills to communicate product plans, progress, and updates to both business and technical teams. Makes a case that is impossible to refute or ignore in order to remove barriers and achieve remarkable outcomes.
  • Iterative Development: Leads an iterative development approach, champions the release of MVPs, incorporating user feedback for product refinement. Proven ability to sequence projects, balancing quick wins versus. platform investments appropriately. This person will appropriately balance growth projects with those that remove drag on the business.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Leverages a deep, demonstrated track record of owning the entire PM life cycle at scale, from ideation and concept through development, launch, and post-launch iterations that drive the continued growth of Tango. Leverage deep technical knowledge to ensure on time and quality releases.
  • Leadership and Influence: Uses a proven ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused products while fostering a spirit of collaboration. Acts as a leadership role model for others in the function and across the organization.

To be effective in our Principal Product Manager role, you must have:

  • 12+  years product management or related experience
  • 8 years of experience building and shipping technology products
  • 5 years of experience as a people manager
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience owning product strategy and roadmap for platform / transaction / compliance products in a B2B2C setting

Our ideal  Principal Product Manager at Tango will have most of the following skills and experience:

  • 15+ years product management or related experience
  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline or MBA
  • Extensive experience at a growth stage company
  • Experience working in a regulated environment 

 

Salary: The targeted pay range for this position is between $160,000 - $235,000. Please note that the actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.  Certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonus.
