Principal Product Manager, Marketplace Experience

AI overview

Shape new and existing marketplace experiences that empower millions of users to connect and give, while leading product execution in a fast-paced environment.

Want to help us help others? We’re hiring!

GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes—for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.

We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to help define and build the Marketplace Experience at GoFundMe — the systems that power how people discover causes, connect with one another, build trust, and decide to give.

This is a true 0→1 + scale role. You’ll help shape entirely new experiences while also evolving existing ones that serve millions of users every month. If you’ve built consumer products where search, discovery, personalization, and growth loops matter — and you’re excited to apply that craft to something meaningful — this role was built for you. You’ll operate as a hands-on product leader, partnering deeply with Design, Engineering, and Data to turn ambiguity into momentum and ideas into products people love.

This is a hybrid role that requires 3 days per week at the office, and we are therefore only able to consider candidates who are located or willing to relocate to San Francisco, CA.

The Job:

Build the Marketplace for Giving

  • Define and own the multi-year vision for key marketplace surfaces that connect donors, organizers, and beneficiaries.
  • Shape how users discover, evaluate, and engage with causes through search, personalization, recommendations, and social signals.
  • Design and launch new experiences and verticals that unlock growth, engagement, and trust across the ecosystem.

Own End-to-End Product Execution

  • Lead products from idea → launch → iteration → scale, including user research, experimentation, metrics, and optimization.
  • Balance bold bets with fast learning through experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, funnels, cohort analysis).
  • Make thoughtful tradeoffs across user experience, technical complexity, and time-to-market.

Be the Voice of the User

  • Develop deep empathy for donors and organizers by studying behavior, motivations, and friction points.
  • Partner closely with Research and Design to craft intuitive, emotionally resonant experiences.
  • Use qualitative insight and quantitative data together to guide decisions

Drive Growth with Intention

  • Build and refine growth loops across acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and reactivation.
  • Partner with marketing and lifecycle teams to align product-led growth with go-to-market execution.
  • Track and improve marketplace health metrics such as discovery success, conversion, trust, and long-term engagement.

Lead Through Influence

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, Data, Research, Marketing, Legal, and Security.
  • Clearly articulate the problem, vision, and strategy — from crisp PRDs to executive-level storytelling.
  • Inspire teams around a shared mission while thriving in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.

You:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, ideally in consumer marketplaces, platforms, or social products.
  • Proven experience taking products from 0→1 and scaling them with real user impact.
  • Deep understanding of search, discovery, personalization, or recommendation systems.
  • Strong intuition for user behavior, paired with fluency in data and experimentation.
  • Experience driving acquisition, retention, and engagement in consumer products.
  • Comfortable operating in high-ownership, fast-moving environments where priorities evolve.
  • Exceptional communicator who can align cross-functional teams and influence senior leaders.
  • Humble, curious, and energized by collaboration and iteration.

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Founder or early-stage startup experience.
  • Background in management consulting (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.).
  • MBA or equivalent strategic training.
