Avalere’s policy practice is seeking a Principal with a primary focus on Medicare Part B, physician-administered drugs, and the 340B program. Expertise in oncology policy is a plus. This role is ideal for a policy professional who enjoys developing creative solutions to complex problems, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and values close collaboration with highly motivated and knowledgeable colleagues.
The policy practice addresses a broad range of issues, including federal and state drug pricing policy discussions; Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part B and D policy and payment; evolving benefit design and coverage in public and private payers; Medicaid; and other state health policies. The team applies deep subject-matter expertise and a strong understanding of client business challenges to assess how policy changes affect pharmaceutical manufacturers, managed care plans, providers, pharmacies, PBMs, and consumers. The practice delivers analytic support and advisory services, including legislative strategy, regulatory analysis, and quantitative modeling of proposed and enacted policies.
What you'll do
Serve as a subject-matter expert on Medicare Part B, physician-administered drug policy, and related drug pricing issues affecting the pharmaceutical, biotech, health insurance, pharmacy, and PBM sectors.
Develop strategic and tactical recommendations aligned with client policy and business objectives.
Lead multiple complex engagements from proposal development through delivery, including shaping project scope, assembling cross-functional teams, and overseeing execution with minimal oversight.
Contribute to practice goals related to sales, revenue growth, and project management.
Create and execute business development plans and participate in firmwide strategic planning discussions.
Supervise, train, and mentor staff within the practice and across the firm.
Produce thought leadership that elevates both personal expertise and the practice’s market profile.
About you
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, public administration, economics, business administration, or a related discipline.
Skill Requirements
Significant experience analyzing legislation, regulation, and policy proposals and communicating insights to clients and public audiences.
Strong understanding of healthcare policy, market dynamics, and the interaction between federal and state policy.
Experience managing and supervising staff.
Demonstrated situational leadership and the ability to motivate colleagues across levels.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to communicate complex methodologies and findings clearly.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, intellectually rigorous environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word.
Experience requirements
10+ years of relevant experience, including roles in biotech, health insurance, trade associations, advocacy organizations, Capitol Hill, the executive branch, or professional advisory services.
Experience in financial services or professional services focused on healthcare may substitute for direct industry experience.
Deep expertise in Medicare Part B, physician-administered drug reimbursement, the 340B Program, the Inflation Reduction Act, and related drug pricing reforms.
Oncology policy expertise preferred.
Prior project management experience with strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts to executive audiences.
