Principal Mechanical Engineer – Design & Structural

Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Principal Mechanical Engineer – Design & Structural focused, to work remotely within the United States!

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, Sedron Technologies designs, manufactures, installs, and operates advanced water and waste upcycling technologies. With a focus on transforming the paradigm from waste processing to resource recovery, Sedron Technologies works with municipal, agricultural, and industrial customers to process their "waste" into climate-smart commodities through environmentally and financially sustainable methods.

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a focus on structural design and analysis in heavy industrial equipment to lead the development, analysis, and long-term reliability of Sedron’s advanced mechanical systems. This role blends deep industrial machinery expertise, advanced structural/welded system knowledge, and lifecycle engineering leadership. You will shape complex mechanical systems from concept through commissioning while safeguarding the structural integrity, reliability, and performance of equipment operating in demanding, continuously loaded environments.

This is a top-tier technical role, ideal for an engineer with 20+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and validating large-scale rotating machinery, welded structures, pressure vessels, and industrial equipment operating under high loads, high temperature differentials, and severe duty cycles.

Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position:

  • Serve as Sedron’s senior technical authority on heavy industrial machine design, rotating equipment, pressure vessel design, and welded/structural systems.
  • Provide SME-level guidance to engineers company-wide, including structural integrity reviews, failure analysis, design improvement strategies, and advanced analytical support.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary design reviews, risk assessments, and formal technical decisions for major capital equipment.
  • Lead the design and development of custom heavy-duty mechanical systems, ensuring high reliability, maintainability, and performance in continuous industrial operations.
  • Lead the design and integration of complex rotary components (shafts, bearings, seals, couplings, gears, lubrication systems).
  • Oversee detailed CAD models, drawings, GD&T, weldment designs, and manufacturing documentation for large equipment systems.
  • Conduct and review advanced analyses (FEA, CFD, fatigue, vibration, thermal, dynamic analysis) to validate and optimize machine performance.
  • Evaluate and qualify components, materials, and suppliers for robust long-term service.
  • Perform and guide advanced structural and fatigue analysis for large, welded assemblies, pressure boundaries, frames, housings, and mechanical support structures.
  • Assess degradation mechanisms (corrosion, fatigue, creep, wear, cracking) and develop strategies to prevent failures.
  • Ensure all designs and reviews meet ASME, AWS, AISC, API, and internal standards.
  • Support systems through the complete lifecycle — from concept development and prototyping through manufacturing, commissioning, field support, and end-of-life evaluation.
  • Lead root cause analyses for equipment failures; drive corrective actions and design improvements that minimize downtime and improve total lifecycle cost.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, automation, controls, operations, and maintenance to ensure systems are safe, serviceable, and cost-effective.
  • Mentor and elevate the technical capabilities of mechanical, structural, and rotational equipment engineers across the organization.
  • Translate complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams.

This position allows for growth and career progression to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion.
