The Purpose

As the Principal Improvement Lead, you will play a pivotal role within the AP+ Business Maturity team during this 12-month max-term control role (with potential for permanency). You will be instrumental in shaping our future ways of working, partnering with cross-functional teams to understand challenges, quantify issues, propose solutions, capture processes, and identify optimisation opportunities.
Your critical thinking, analytical capability, and process expertise will help align stakeholders, streamline operations, and elevate organisational performance. You will provide process leadership and guidance to our process roles, across squads and business units, all with the goal of driving strategic outcomes, enhancing member experiences, and improving stakeholder satisfaction.

The core accountabilities of the role will include:

  • Deliver strategic guidance across the full lifecycle of process management and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with AP+’s strategic objectives and operational priorities.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to define process ownership, articulate end-to-end process outcomes, and prioritise improvement initiatives that support long-term organisational goals.
  • Lead and facilitate workshops to confirm process ownership, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure alignment across stakeholders. Document agreements & directions that support the assessment of organisational process maturity, and translate insights into actionable, prioritised roadmaps that drive meaningful and sustainable improvement.
  • Design and embed experience-led processes that create clarity, consistency, and measurable outcomes across the organisation. Use insights from stakeholder and employee experience to shape process expectations, define aligned ways of working, and ensure processes support seamless, high-quality interactions. Partner with process owners to translate desired experiences into practical, scalable process designs, establish clear responsibilities, and create mechanisms that enable continuous learning, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies, uncover automation opportunities, and maintain a prioritised backlog of process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop clear and compelling reports, insights, and executive-ready presentations that articulate improvement outcomes, performance metrics, and progress updates.
  • Promote a culture of process excellence, best practice adoption, and ongoing innovation across the organisation.
  • Develop and embed sustainable knowledge practices, aligning policies, procedures, and work instructions to empower employees and strengthen operational effectiveness.

The capabilities needed to be successful for this role are:

  • 10+ years of progressively senior experience in business process management, improvement, optimisation, or process engineering, at scale, using enterprise toolsets.
  • Proven success in leading process improvement workshops, enabling cross-functional collaboration, designing end-to-end processes, and delivering initiatives that drive significant operational or strategic impact.
  • Ability to influence and drive change in complex environments, building a culture of continuous improvement and strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, with the capability to partner with delivery teams to coordinate change across the organisation.
  • Working knowledge of frameworks such as APQC, ITIL, and COBIT, and how they are applied to strengthen organisational process maturity and governance.
  • Experience in benchmarking, developing performance measures, and leveraging data-driven insights to improve process performance.
  • Understanding of delivery practices including RAID, estimation approaches, and structured reporting to enable strong process oversight and governance.
  • Advanced training or certification in process improvement or change methodologies (e.g., Black or Green Belt Six Sigma) is highly advantageous.
