About the role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to shape our technical direction and drive innovation across the entire organisation. Reporting to the CTO and leading a team of Staff Engineers, you will operate at the intersection of business and technology, influencing strategy while scaling our most critical engineering systems and practices. We are looking for a strategic leader who thrives on solving complex challenges and genuinely values mentoring the next generation of engineering talent to maintain a high bar for quality.
Key Responsibilities
Set the bar by defining and embedding top quality coding standards and architectural patterns across the entire engineering org.
Collaborate with the CTO, Product leaders and senior business leaders to turn ambitious business visions into scalable technical reality.
Provide technical truth and advice to help leadership make sound decisions on company goals.
Debt crush by identifying systemic bottlenecks and technical debt that slow us down, then engineer the way out.
Force multiply our team - mentor and level-up Engineers across the department.
Plan and pivot technical strategies for complex projects to keep delivery synchronised with business objectives.
Lead high-level code reviews that protect the integrity and performance of our group ecosystem.
Innovate and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement to ensure our tech and people remains a competitive advantage.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Strong experience as a Principal Engineer designing distributed architectures that scale.
Proven ability to bridge deep technical trade-offs with C-suite business goals to drive high-impact outcomes.
Expert-level mastery of cloud-native infrastructure, platform modernisation, and security-minded architecture.
Expert in Domain-Driven Design and modular strategies.
Experience mentoring Staff and Senior Engineers and leading technical design forums or training.
Proven success navigating the complexity tax of high-growth environments, ideally in regulated domains.
A 'leave it better than you found it' attitude, balancing long-term technical health with the need to ship at pace.
Ability to influence across multiple functions and stakeholder levels.
