Principal Communication Designer

Role Overview

Reporting to the Head of Design, the Principal Communication Designer will lead design projects from concept to execution and deliver world-class design solutions in service of product marketing, brand development, and product design.

This person will work closely with the Head of Design and Product Marketing team to translate marketing strategies and communications plans into visual assets, marketing materials, and design systems that achieve brand and product goals.

This position requires exceptional creative and visual design skills, excellent time and project management skills, a high attention to detail, and enthusiasm for collaboration and constructive feedback.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver world-class visual design solutions to support the product and marketing needs of the organization, including: brand assets, marketing materials, front-end web layouts, editorial design, and exhibition design
• Refine and expand Boom’s visual brand identity and design system, including: graphics, typography, logos, and merchandise
• Use visual design techniques to communicate and articulate strategic, technical and editorial information in an engaging and compelling manner
• Work collaboratively across departments and disciplines, implement feedback, and manage tight deadlines to deliver projects on time and on budget
• Solve complex design challenges on short timelines and with limited resources

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 8+ years relevant design experience, preferably across a variety of industries and projects
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant design discipline, or equivalent training
• Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional design skills, technical proficiency, and aesthetic sensibility
• Exceptional visual, verbal, and written communication skills with a high attention to detail
• Proven strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate abstract concepts into clear solutions
• Natural problem-solver and self-starter with a bias for action and taking initiative
• Articulate the role and value of design within the organization and provide a rationale for specific design decisions to both internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, pivot with changing dynamics and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Relentlessly committed to delivering exceptional work and continuously raising the bar
• High emotional intelligence, a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• 3D/CAD modeling/rendering skills (Rhino, Fusion, Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, Vantage)
• Motion design and video editing skills
• CMF (colors, materials, finishes) design experience
• Experience in a fast-space, high growth startup environment and/or aerospace industry

Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $150,000 to $165,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
