Principal Business Analyst - Engineering Operations

AI overview

Lead cross-functional planning and delivery cycles while providing insight and ensuring effective stakeholder engagement across the APAC Engineering marketplace.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering Operations, this role will be the 2IC of the Engineering Operations team. You’ll be the senior practitioner who turns strategy into well‑run planning cycles, forums and artefacts – leading the work through concept, delivery and stakeholder engagement.

You’ll work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with Strategy Managers in Strategic Operations and Program Managers in the Strategic Portfolio team, as well as Heads of Engineering, Product and Design Directors, Finance, Security and Architecture leaders. Your scope is deliberately cross‑cutting: you’ll support the full APAC Engineering marketplace (Hirer, Candidate and Engineering Platforms) rather than a single domain.

Although the role sits within the Business Analysis career family, it has a strong project and delivery management DNA. You’ll be just as comfortable scoping a brownfield or greenfield piece of work as you are driving it to completion through others.
In this role you will:

  • Own and evolve the quarterly RTB and STP planning cycles – from designing the forums and artefacts, to refining how domains bring in their data and priorities, to making the whole experience simpler and more valuable for leaders and teams.
  • Turn complex data into clear insight and recommendations – working with data, planning models and Confluence artefacts to illustrate to senior leaders where constraints and opportunities exist
  • Provide matrix‑style leadership across the EngOps team – guiding and coordinating the work team members, coaching on approaches and quality, and helping the Head of Engineering Operations set and maintain standards, without direct line‑management responsibility.
  • Shape and facilitate key forums – designing and running sessions with Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Directors and the CTO that create shared understanding, surface trade‑offs and lead to clear decisions and follow‑through.
  • Act as a “front door” and connector for engineering – helping partners across Finance, Security, Architecture, Product and many others navigate into APAC Engineering in a way that respects teams’ focus, while still getting the information, decisions and outcomes needed.
  • Continuously improve how EngOps and APAC Engineering work – experimenting with new tools, templates and practices; simplifying where things have become heavy; and adapting the level of polish from “good enough” to highly refined based on audience, timing and stakeholders.

About the team – Engineering Operations

Engineering Operations sits within APAC Engineering, the group that builds and maintains the systems powering SEEK’s hirer and candidate experiences (“the Marketplace”) and the platforms that support them. We design and run the operating system for engineering: the structures, processes and planning rhythms that keep a large, distributed technology organisation focused on the most important work.
Our purpose is to support and optimise the overarching structures, processes and planning rituals for APAC Engineering and its Product and Design partners. In practice, that means we:

  • Shape Run the Business (RTB) guidance and priorities each quarter so our critical platforms, products and services remain healthy and reliable.
  • Design and facilitate Shift the Product (STP) quarterly planning, forums and artefacts that connect OKRs, domain ambitions and engineering capacity, so teams are working on the highest‑impact outcomes for SEEK and its customers.
  • Provide escalation and prioritisation support when trade‑offs need to be made across Candidate, Hirer and Engineering Platform domains, helping leaders see the whole marketplace picture rather than a single team or project.
  • Prepare and support governance forums such as STP Governance and technology leadership reviews, turning fragmented inputs (roadmaps, headcount, RTB data, contingent spend) into clear options and recommendations.
  • Own monthly RTB metrics and completion reporting into the CTO's LT and the wider technology leadership, ensuring we have a consistent, data‑driven view of how APAC Engineering is performing against its commitments.
  • Respond to a dynamic set of people, delivery and technology priorities from the CTO and Technology Leadership Team (TLT) – for example, recently managing FY26 budget stretch planning and facilitating mobility of engineers and business analysts between a legacy and newly forming sub-domains.

Our Partners & Stakeholders

We work across the marketplace domains (Candidate, Hirer, Engineering Platforms), supporting the Directors and Head of Product, Design & Engineering. Our closest operational partners are Strategic PortfolioStrategy Operations teams. We also partner with broader SEEK functions that include but not limited to; Finance, Security and Architecture.

In many ways, Engineering Operations is the front door to engineering – a connection point intended to help protect teams’ and engineering leaders focus while making it easier for the wider organisation to engage with them effectively.

What you’ll bring

You may have experience as a Business Analyst, Project Manager or Operations role within a product or technology function, but what matters most is your ability to combine critical thinking with delivery follow‑through.
You will have:

  • Comfort with ambiguity and change – you’re energised rather than paralysed by uncertainty, can see multiple paths through a problem, and are able to adjust your approach as new information emerges.
  • Proven project and delivery management experience – you can take an idea, scope it into something actionable, build a plan and then drive it to completion, adapting along the way as constraints and priorities shift.
  • A growth mindset and situational quality bar – you can flex your delivery quality depending on audience, timing and expectations, without ever losing sight of what “good” looks like for the decision at hand.
  • Strong analytical and business analysis skills – you’re comfortable working with Excel and large, messy data sets; where you can manipulate and model data. Presenting your insights and recommendations through visual and written comm's that are clear, impactful and help shape effective decision making for stakeholders and partners.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills – you’re confident designing and running sessions with Engineering Managers, Heads of, Directors and CTO‑level stakeholders, and you know how to balance detail with clarity depending on the room.
  • Tooling fluency and curiosity – you’re a competent user of Confluence and Jira, comfortable learning new tools and approaches, and you enjoy finding better ways to visualise work, decisions and data for different audiences.

If you’re motivated by the idea of helping a large engineering organisation do its best work on the right things, and you enjoy operating at the intersection of strategy, data and delivery, this role will give you a unique opportunity in SEEK and its APAC Engineering function.
