Summary: This principal position is responsible for providing leadership, expertise and guidance related to the design and implementation of technical solutions that enable our business objectives. This position will also have responsibility for mentoring, coaching and advising more junior engineers and administrators on the organization’s best practices related to infrastructure. Inform leadership on the skills needed within the team and recommendations to mature the practice.  

The Principal Engineer will act as a thought leader using proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices, acting as a technical advisor, to guide in the planning and coordination of design and implementation of our mission-critical systems. They will also act as a sounding board or peer review focal for deliverables produced by the team. 

Key Responsibilities: “To simplify complexities for each customer.” 

  1.  Along with IT Leadership, develop a strategic technical vision that supports the organization’s Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). 
  2. Drive alignment and governance across the various domains (e.g. Business, Information, Technology, and Security).
  3. Understand, advocate and support the enterprise's IT strategy along with assisting in the implementation and realization of the various IT roadmaps.
  4. Analyze the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  5. Analyze the technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the business and its IT infrastructure architecture.
  6. Lead the evaluation and selection of technologies standards and help implement governance processes to ensure enterprise alignment.
  7. Consult with architects and delivery teams, aligning infrastructure designs to the defined future state. 
  8. Advises leadership about industry best practices, trends, and technology, which would influence the IT strategy.
  9. Effectively communicate using written, oral, non-verbal, and active listening skills. 

Qualifications/Education/Certifications: 

Bachelor's degree, preferably in a computer science/engineering, information technology or other related field plus more than 10 years of related experience; and/or equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience.  

Proven record of grasping highly complex problems and turning them into solutions ready to implement. 

Experience in Healthcare and Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation industry is a plus. 

Valid Architect level cloud certification(s).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Proven experience working with company leadership and driving IT Services teams in an influential role to deliver results based on business requirements, technology standards, service level agreements and approved funding.  

Must have experience in establishing and implementing effective IT processes and capable of leading and facilitating presentations with both business and technical team members to drive change. 

Must be a relationship builder and capable of functioning with only limited oversight. Strong verbal and written communications skills and the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations. 

Demonstrated a set of skills that include but not limited to: 

  • Strong leadership, vision, effective communication and goal-oriented 
  • Emotional maturity in guiding and influencing challenging team and systems environments 
  • Political awareness and skill to drive change 

Subject Matter Expert in at least one technical discipline and knowledge in multiple technical disciplines. 

 Required technical skills but not limited to:  

  • Atlassian application administration and development – Jira, Confluence, OpsGenie 
  • Sharepoint workflow creation and administration 
  • Azure Cloud including management, deployment and automation 
  • Okta IDP 
  • Microsoft Server 
  • DataDog 
  • Nice CX/One administration 
  • Comfortable in a consulting role, helping to optimize and implement business processes using toolset best practices 
  • Must be comfortable with change, close collaboration, and have conflict resolution skills.  
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Agile / DevOps values.   
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting in any applicable language.  
  • Demonstrate knowledge of security protocols and practices.  
  • Ability to train others in applications and operating systems fundamentals.  
  • Azure management, deployment, and automation

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 

Duties are performed primarily in an office or data center setting. Travel to attend meetings and visit locations throughout the country may be required.  Operate computer and standard office equipment such as telephone, copier, and printer. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, geographical cost of labor, etc.  In addition to base pay, Healthesystems offers a comprehensive benefits package including, health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, wellness resources, recognition programs, 401k contribution, and PTO & Holiday pay (all subject to eligibility requirements). Anticipated Starting Pay Range
$119,000$163,680 USD
