Spotify is seeking a culturally aware, strategically sharp, and creatively inclined Communications Lead for India to craft and amplify our story across one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse markets. This position involves spearheading various communication consumer, corporate, trade, internal, and industry - with an emphasis on cohesive, audience-first storytelling that’s both locally resonant and globally aligned. You’ll also partner closely with our Government Affairs team on creative policy communications, helping position Spotify as a meaningful contributor to India’s creative economy. We need a strong people manager to lead a direct report and work with multiple departments like music, podcasting, product, growth, marketing, government affairs, social media, and agency teams - to improve communication strategies. We seek an inquisitive, adventurous, and tactical individual with a deep understanding of India’s media and regulatory landscape. Skilled in driving innovation, empowering creators, and prioritizing artists to elevate Indian voices on Spotify, showcasing how Spotify drives discovery, connection, and global opportunity. This position is located in Mumbai and directly reports to the JAPAC & SAMEA Head of Communications in Singapore and works closely with regional leadership to bring India’s voice to the forefront, from executive positioning and cultural moments to policy conversations and issues management, in partnership with regional and global teams. What You’ll Do
  • Own and execute Spotify’s integrated communications strategy for India, spanning consumer, corporate, trade, internal, industry, and policy communications, with a strong focus on elevating local creators and India’s creative economy
  • Shape narratives that reflect India’s linguistic, cultural, and regional diversity while building a cohesive brand story that resonates both nationally and globally, acting as a key bridge between local priorities and Spotify’s global communications direction
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to the India Managing Director and senior functional leaders, supporting strategic, reputational, and business-critical moments, and leading executive positioning and thought leadership
  • Champion and protect Spotify’s brand in India through earned-first, creator-centric campaigns that drive discovery, fandom, and loyalty, in close partnership with content, editorial, marketing, influencers, tastemakers, and Spotify-owned channels
  • Partner closely with Government Affairs and Policy teams to shape creative, creator-first policy communications, navigate Trust & Safety and sensitive content issues, and reinforce Spotify’s public position in a complex regulatory environment
  • Lead high-stakes issues and crisis communications with calm judgment and global perspective, proactively identifying and managing reputational risks and opportunities in collaboration with regional and global stakeholders
  • Provide communications leadership and oversight for emerging markets including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, ensuring alignment with regional priorities and local relevance
  • Drive internal, corporate, executive, and B2B communications with clarity and cultural sensitivity, connecting India-based teams and keeping the market visible across Spotify’s global ecosystem
  • Work cross-functionally across Music, Podcasts, Product, Growth, Marketing, and Leadership to support business goals and deepen local impact
  • Lead and develop a direct report and manage agency partners with creativity and discipline, ensuring high-quality, locally attuned, and globally aligned output
  • Who You Are
  • You bring 12–15+ years of experience leading integrated communications across consumer, corporate, and policy contexts, ideally within music, media, tech, entertainment, or culture-led industries
  • You thrive in complex, global, matrixed environments and know how to drive alignment through clear communication, strong stakeholder relationships, and sound judgment
  • You are a strategic and adaptable storyteller, fluent across earned media, executive communications, influencer engagement, and integrated channel planning, tailoring narratives for diverse audiences, platforms, and languages
  • You are creator-first and culturally fluent, with a deep understanding of how music, podcasts, and storytelling shape India’s culture, and how to elevate regional voices through brand storytelling and partnerships
  • You bring calm, confidence, and decisiveness to high-pressure situations, with experience leading crisis and issues management across Trust & Safety, policy, content, and reputational matters
  • You are a trusted advisor and low-ego collaborator who builds trust across teams, translates local market dynamics into insights for regional and global partners, and leads agencies and budgets with clarity, creativity, and impact
  • You are well connected across Indian and South Asian media, influencer, and creative communities, with a strong grasp of the cultural, political, and business landscape
