Our Story
Hello there. We’re Zopa.
We started our journey back in 2005, building the first ever peer-to-peer lending company. Fast forward to 2020 and we launched Zopa Bank. A bank that listens to what our customers don’t like about finance and does the opposite. We’re redefining what it feels like to work in finance. Our vision for a new era of banking puts people front and centre — we’ve built a business that empowers everyone to aim high, every day, to move finance forward. Find out more about our fantastic offerings at Zopa.com!
We’re incredibly proud of our achievements and none of it would be possible without the amazing team here. It’s not just industry awards we’re winning, we’ve also been named in the top three UK’s Most Loved Workplaces.
If you embrace unconventional challenges, are unafraid to think differently and are driven to make an outsized impact, you’ll thrive here at Zopa, so join us, and make it count. Want to see us in action? Follow us on Instagram @zopalife
The team:
Developer Experience (DevX) is the heart of engineering productivity at Zopa. We are a high-impact squad of 6 engineers who treat our internal platform as a product, and our fellow Zopa engineers as our customers.
Our mission is to build the tools that let every product engineer maintain compliance whilst having a world-class expeirence in shipping their code. We are currently starting a landmark project migrating our entire Fintech infrastructure from self-hosted Jenkins to a SaaS-based GitHub Actions platform.
You will work across a modern stack including Go, AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), ArgoCD, Terraform, Vault Honeycomb and DX.
A day in the life:
a As Senior DevX Engineer, your focus isn't on deploying software for teams, fixing their pipelines, or troubleshooting incidents; you are architecting the future of how Zopa builds software. You will spend 50-80% of your time writing high-quality code to build internal CLI tools, automation providers, and self-service platforms.
The rest of your day is spent as a strategic consultant and leader. You’ll be:
- Architecting the Platform Evolution: Designing the templates and workflows that will move hundreds of microservices onto GitHub Actions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Meeting with product squads to identify friction points and writing technical RFCs to solve them.
- Data-Driven Optimization: Analyzing DORA/DX metrics to prove that your tools have increased delivery experience (speed, stability, flow).
- Mentoring: Levelling up our mid-level and associate engineers through pairing and high-standard code reviews.
About you:
Programming Knowledge: You'll spend time writing high-quality Go code to build APIs, CLIs, tools and automation providers, but we are open to anyone with a deep knowledge of a similar language (Java, Kotlin, .Net)
Platform Visionary: You don’t just "deploy stuff for people"; you build the self-service platforms that allow people to easily deploy stuff for themselves.
CI/CD Specialist: Deep, production-level experience with GitHub Actions and Jenkins is essential. You’ve ideally navigated a migration between the two before.
Infrastructure Native: You are a power user of Kubernetes and AWS (including Lambdas). You understand the "why" behind the architecture, not just the "how."
Proactive Communicator: You are comfortable presenting to stakeholders, writing clear documentation, and acting as the "face" of the DevX team.
The "Product" Mindset: You have experience with measuring success based on quantitate and qualitative metrics (developer sentiment, speed, cost), not by tickets closed.
Nice to have experience:
Languages: Advanced-level Go would be ideal but not mandatory. Familiarity with Java, Kotlin, or .NET is a plus.
Orchestration: Advanced Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Terraform.
Tooling: Experience with Vault, Knative, and observability tools like Splunk, and Honeycomb.
Metrics: A track record of using data to drive engineering improvements (Platforms like GetDX or LinearB).
Experience in high-growth startups or tech-first organizations
Contributions to open-source DevX or CNCF projects.
