Plant EHS Manager

Who will you be working with?

You will be part of the EHS function supporting Wabtec’s LKZ (Lokomotiv Kurastytu Zauyty) plant operations. The team consists of dedicated environmental, health and safety professionals committed to ensuring safe, compliant, and sustainable manufacturing processes. You’ll collaborate daily with plant leadership, operational teams, engineering, maintenance, and global EHS experts to continually strengthen the plant’s safety culture and drive industry‑leading EHS performance.

How will you make a difference?

As a key member within the EHS team, you will be responsible for driving world‑class environmental, health, and safety performance across the LKZ Plant. In this role, you will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs and standards, ensuring compliance with company policies, global initiatives, and Kazakhstan legislation. You will act as a mentor for EHS specialists on site, support emergency response efforts, lead audits, and coordinate corrective actions. Your leadership will help embed a strong safety culture, operational excellence, and sustainability mindset across all plant teams.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing EHS programs in a manufacturing environment (preferably heavy industry, energy, or transportation)
  • Strong knowledge of local environmental regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and compliance best practices
  • Proven experience in risk assessments, EHS policy development, conducting audits, and incident investigation leadership
  • Experience leading and developing EHS teams
  • Strong analytical skills to address complex EHS issues and implement impactful improvements
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional plant teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining a strong safety culture
  • Fluency in Kazakh, Russian, and English
  • Legal authorization to work in Kazakhstan is required.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Support implementation and compliance with corporate EHS programs and requirements
  • Act as a mentor and subject‑matter expert for EHS specialists at the LKZ site
  • Participate in the emergency response team and lead crisis management activities
  • Provide immediate support in case of serious incidents and coordinate response actions
  • Lead internal audits, coordinate audit schedules, and support Kazakhstan sites with closure of audit observations
  • Collect, analyze, and report EHS KPIs; drive continuous improvement and cost‑optimization initiatives
  • Coordinate mandatory training programs and support selection of qualified instructors and training providers
  • Implement and oversee corporate EHS systems 
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards
  • Prepare and submit required governmental environmental reports
  • Develop and oversee occupational safety and health plans and ensure proper facility operations
  • Participate in investigations of occupational injuries and develop preventive measures
  • Contribute to the “Labor Protection” section of the collective bargaining agreement
  • Participate in review of design documentation and acceptance of construction and repair works
  • Provide methodological support for required medical examination lists and development of occupational safety instructions
